| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Both my boyfriend and I.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My boyfriend and I have agreed on a Corgi due to its size and behavior. I am a HUGE dog lover, and have recently been diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. A family friend had three Corgis while I was growing up and they advised me that they were always extremely friendly to their children, guests, and other pets. Another one of my friends has one, as well, and she has told me that her corgi is an amazing companion. I will be registering my Corgi as an emotional support animal and I have been doing research on the best dog breeds for PTSD/Anxiety and all of my research leads me to Welsh Corgi's. I am looking for my new best friend and looking forward to helping each other grow and heal.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We will be moving to a new apartment in September, and the complex has two dog parks. I will enjoy many walks/jogs with my Corgi. I am excited for him to make new doggy friends at the dog parks, as well as any park we visit. I am also very excited to train and teach my Corgi new tricks and obedience. I believe that this will be very beneficial for the Corgi as well as myself because it will teach both of us to be more patient and confident. My boyfriend and I are more than ready for this new addition to our lives.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Mistakes happen, that's life. You cannot lose your temper whenever mistakes happen, especially when you own a dog. I believe that you can correct their behavior, but to always make sure they feel nurtured and loved.
Discipline: |
I would like to use the words "Leave it" instead of "No". We'll have to just see how he responds to everything but my boyfriend and I will remain consistent in our disciple so that he does not get mixed signals and avoid confusion. With my experience with dogs, I have learned that a stern tone of voice can do the trick most times.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
He will be crated while my boyfriend and I are at work – from 8-4:30 M-F. He will have free range of the apartment at all other times, though.

No, not during the weekdays.
Where would dog eat? |
We would probably keep his food and water bowls in the kitchen.
Where would dog sleep: |
We plan on purchasing a dog bed and he will also be allowed on all furniture, so he would have access to our bed and our couches, as well.
Play & exercise: |
I plan on taking him on at least two substantial walks/hikes a week. But, besides those, he will be unleashed in the dog parks where he would be able to run around and play with other dogs. I will also have many toys for him and hopefully he will enjoy a tug-toy because my dogs growing up LOVED them and we would have some intense tug-toy playing.
