| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
We are submitting our application for a corgi who would be a part of our immediate family.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have not had a PWC but I have been interested in the breed for several years. I have done research on PWC's and joined several PWC/Corgi Facebook pages to better educate myself and see what it might be like to have this breed in our family.. I love the look of the breed and the smiles the dogs seem to always have. They seem to be loyal to their owners and have a balance between liking to be active and play and cuddling with their human family.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Our dogs are truly family members. They come with us on car rides, vacations, daily walks, sleep with us (in bed with one of the kids or their own bed on the floor) and live a wonderful life with us. We are comfortable with rescuing a dog and are willing to wait for the right fit.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
When one of our dogs makes a mistake we first look at why it happened, how we could have prevented it and what we could do different in the future. We look at if there are any health issues that suddenly popped up (like a urinary infection) or if a situation could have been better handled on our end, We do what needs to be done to set the dog up for success.
Discipline: |
We try to be aware of potential situations which might cause the dog to act in an undesirable manner and then work to acclimate the dog and train the proper behavior. We use positive reinforcement vs strong discipline. I find yelling at a dog is usually ineffective and just scares and confuses him/her. I have used a coin can to provide an audible reminder to mind our manners as well.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
He/she would be inside the house with me and after learning that this is his/her home, can have the ability to roam the house. We when leave for errands, we have a custom built, double sided crate with beds that the dog would stay in.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Yes, I am home most of the day. My husband frequently works from home and we also have a housekeeper in the house 2 to 3 days a week.
Where would dog eat? |
We would offer whatever type of food needed by the dog. We currently give dry kibble Fromm to our dog at home.
Where would dog sleep: |
Either with one of our teenagers, with us or in a bed on the floor. Each of our dogs has had a different sleeping personality. Our Golden liked to sleep next to our bed on the floor. Our Chihuahua liked to sleep on a special blanket on the bed of my 13 year old. Our Rat Terrier likes to start the night in one of the other teenagers rooms and tends to come into the master bedroom about 5am until its time to get up for the day. |
||||||
Play & exercise: |
Our dogs come on daily walks with us, play with each other and the kids play with them. We have an busy household with lots of opportunity each day to play and be active. While we have a fenced in yard, I don't leave the dogs outside unattended for long periods of time. I think that encourages aggressive behavior at the fence and opens an opportunity for the dogs to get into mischief.
How will you exercise your dog? |
On leash | ||||||
|
Fenced yard? |
Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
Willing to pick up dog waste? |
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.
Willing to use a crate? |
We have a 3 foot-4 foot, wood slat fence (depending on the area of the yard). The slats are about 2-3 inches apart. We built the fence to prevent dogs from escaping through the fence or under the fence.

Our kids have grown up with dogs and been an active part of the rescue/adjustment process. They are hands on with care and love having dogs in their lives. They understand how to treat animals and I have no worries about their behavior towards any new dog. When we have children in our home who may not have these skills, I will teach them how a particular dog wants to be interacted with. …how to pet them, what the dog likes/doesn't like and any other rules to help the interaction be positive.
