Outgoing, Playful, Energetic

Other preferences:
We have cats, roosters, eventually sheep and goats as well as friends with dogs that we regularly camp and hang out with. Having said that, we really would love a corgi who has been with other animals and can coexist peacefully with them. I know most people do not have farm animals, lol, but cats and other dogs. My boys learned to leave the chickens alone. Of course at first it was something new and exciting but eventually was boring for them. Actually Oliver would sleep next to the roosters when all were together in the yard.

Who is this dog for?

The new addition is for our family, but mostly me :). Lol. We all love our Pembrokes but I am the one that is home all day with them. My 4 legged babies

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I am a Corgi Mom. I have been one for over 27 years. I fell in love with the breed when I was 14 years old riding horses. Corgi's were the "Mayor of the stables". I told my mother that one day I will have a Corgi of my own. After getting married, my life with Corgi's began. I absolutely LOVE breed. Having both males and a female I understand the nuances between the sexes. We are an energetic family. We have the perfect property for daily hikes with our Corgi's and we take our Corgi's most everywhere we go. They are a part of our family. Not a pet. A family member.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Hikes, walks on the beach, swimming, camping trips with friends that have dogs. I would love to do low impact agility with our new family member.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Positive inforcement ONLY!! Mostly a mistake is made because "I" or"we" were not paying attention. We, the humans are to blame not the dog. They give you plenty of fore warning. I don't look at anything an animals does as a mistake. There are reasons for every action, every move.

Discipline:
Positive inforcement. If a dog is chewing or takes something that you do not want them to have, give them something you DO want them to have. If a dog does a behavior that you do not deem suitable. Catch him doing good or being calm and praise the heck out of it so he/she feels that he has pleased you. They live to please us. Make sure you let them know it!

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Home with me. I run a farm animal sanctuary. I am home. We plan our vacations around our animals. If we do not have the best animal care, we do not go. I do not put my animals in a kennel. Everyone stays home with a family member or close friend or we don't go.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes. Me.

Where would dog eat?
Kitchen or mudroom attached to the kitchen. I leave that decision up to the Corgi. Where do they feel more comfortable eating? My Owyn wanted to eat in the mudroom. He wanted peace and quiet while eating. He was a slow eater (shocking, I know) so being away from the hussle and bussle of the kitchen was his preferred dining place

Where would dog sleep:
Right next to us on the floor on a comfy cozy bed in our bedroom. At first, We will have a closed crate in the bedroom. Once our new boy feels comfortable we will open the door for him to choose crate or dog bed. Our Owyn loved a blanket covered open crate to sleep. Oliver loved his dog bed

Play & exercise:
We have 12 acres. Mostly fenced in. We love to hike and play ball with our Corgi's. Our friends bring their dogs to our farm because of the perfect place to let your dog run and play while in a secured area.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
We have split rail fencing with goat/sheep metal fencing attached. The fence is 48 inches tall and goes all the way to the ground.

Description of yard:

12 acre farm with several fenced in pastures to roam and play. The farm is flanked by 2 wooded ravines. Our boys enjoyed long walks through the ravine where they could explore off leash.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Kellie

Willing to train children?
My children know how to care for animals. We run a vegan farm animal sanctuary. We do so because of the love of all animals. Other children that come to our home, past homes and this home, are taught how to act around animals and how animals feel, love and want to exist just as we do.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes, but I would prefer a Corgi who has lived with other pets. I know that regardless of other pets the new Corgi will be excited with his new found playmates and may chase. Eventually it will all settle down. Adopting a Corgi with a history of other animal friends will make things progress much more smoothly

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
