Who is this dog for?

For me and my girlfriend. We’ve been wanting a dog (specifically a corgi) for a while but have been waiting until it was the right time. Like children, you can’t have a dog until you’re ready and available to give them the love and time they need.

A nice lady I met walking her corgi around the neighborhood recommended this group to me because of how her corgi responded me. She had adopted and rescued a Pembroke that had been abused in a prior house and was afraid of strangers, but felt comfortable letting me pet her and talk to her.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I’ve always wanted a corgi based on the ones I’ve met and the personalities they had. They’re spunky dogs with street smarts, loving, high energy with the want to go on walks but also small enough to sit next to you on the couch.

I’ve done a ton of research, especially in the realm of why one should NOT get a corgi. Most have said they’re high energy, generally expensive, loud, and too smart so they tend to get bored when not stimulated.

I found all of these to be manageable issues. I live in a house so barking isn’t a major concern, my last dog barked at squirrels 24/7 and apparently didn’t like it when some people hugged. I also live next to a forest preserve with extensive and well maintained trails perfect for walks. I’ve also been interested in doggy puzzle toys that can keep a dog stimulated and I’d like to teach the corgi tricks to keep them learning.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Like I was saying more thoroughly above, I’d like to take my corgi on walks. I know they have small legs so I’d be prepared to evacuate our walk if needed and carry them if they got too tired. I’d also like to go to a dog park (after some vetting) and go camping.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Multiple family members would be around at all times.

Where would dog eat?
They would eat in the kitchen but away from the table

Where would dog sleep:
This is always the hardest part because dogs in general tend to sleep where they feel most comfortable. I will get a doggie bed that can go in my bedroom next to my bed.

Play & exercise:
I would socialize him with my friend’s dog who is well disciplined and friendly towards other dogs. I’d love to go to dog parks as well as forest preserves to get in both of our exercise needs.
