Who is this dog for?

Family pet for Elizabeth Waskom-Sisco and Brin Sisco

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We appreciate their temperament and quirky personalities. They are not generally high energy which would be a good match for our family. They are not super small but smaller than most dogs and since we keep our pets indoors unless supervised play time outdoors or on a walk, our home would better suit a smaller breed. They are incredibly adorable with their large ears and little chunky backsides. We do not purchase any animal. They are either adopted or from someone who had to part with the animal. Adoption fees are to be expected.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Cuddle time on the couch, bed, etc. Outdoor play time that will be fully supervised. Walks as needed on our dead end street which causes limited traffic to come through our neighborhood.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Address the behavior immediately in a calm manner so as to not incite anxiety. Any animal will quickly lose any connection to whatever mishavior has occurred if the connection is delayed. Positive reinforcement is preferred but negative can be used as well. Such as the corgi urinating indoors-typically s/he receives a small treat when coming in from using restroom. I would take the corgi outdoors following an indoor accident and allow the corgi time to go potty. However, no treat given at all even if corgi urinates outdoor.

Discipline:
Mostly positive reinforcement but some negative reinforcement as applicable. Each animal is different and what works for one pet may not work at all for another. Patience is crucial with any pet.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Indoors, likely on a county or bed. Our animals are indoors only with any time outdoors as closely supervised. Any pet deserves excessive physical affection and to be spoiled.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No. I leave around 9-930a most works days and get home between 5-6p. My spouse works from 630a and is home between 230-3p. This results in a limited amount of time that s/he would be without a caregiver.

Where would dog eat?
Indoors in a designated area of the kitchen. Some animals do well with set feeding times while others are grazers and may require a constant supply of food.

Where would dog sleep:
On a couch, bed in spare bedroom or in our bed in the master bedroom. Animals are most welcome in our bed.

Play & exercise:
It would depend on the animal, but there is a long hallway to play fetch in and areas to get down on the ground and play with s/he. We have a large backyard to utilize and an unfinished basement with large open spaces for playtime. Otherwise, basement door stays locked.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Description of yard:

Front yard of moderate size with a large maple tree. Reside of a dead ended street in a long established area. Not a lot of vehicle traffic. Backyard is very large, flat with only an old close line and basketball goal. Ample room for a dog to run, play, explore, etc.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Elizabeth Waskom-Sisco

Willing to train children?
The only young child that visits our home is my five year old niece. She has been raised from birth around animals, primarily house cats.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

No, some of our current pets are not friendly toward dogs

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Both of our cats have a history of abuse before coming to our home. One cat has been abused far more than the other and is highly skittish. She will not know aggression in any way but will not befriend any animal in the home. She never has for the past 11 years I have had her. Our other cat is very outgoing and very loving. Her abuse seems to be only related to food and eating as she was absolutely tiny when we got her and very underweight. She does very well to any changes in the home.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
