I have a three year old Pembroke, Keaton, who is friendly with other dogs as well as my cat, Oliver. Keaton is a great couch potato but also loves to run and play, so activity level isn't a huge concern for me!

Who is this dog for? |

Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I currently own a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Keaton. He is three years old and I would love for him to have a companion. He is great with other dogs of all varieties, but he is just the right size and level of spunk for my current lifestyle. He gets along with my big orange tabby, Oliver, but Keaton definitely displays more energy than Oliver, who is a definite couch potato kitty! I do not work at home, so most of the work week, Keaton and Oliver are at home alone. I would love for Keaton to have a Corgi companion to play with during the day, and I would also personally love to give another Corgi a loving home! From my experience with Keaton and other Corgis, the breed is perfectly suited to my personality and lifestyle.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I have no intentions of using my potential rescue for any kind of competitive activities. My activities would reflect what Keaton and I do already. When I come home from work, we usually go for a walk around the neighborhood, or play in the backyard. If the weather isn't nice, we love to play fetch inside our home with toys! At night there is always cuddling on the couch and eventually going to bed where Keaton makes sure to get comfortable right where my feet should be! (He's a bit spoiled if you haven't noticed!) Weekends give us more opportunity for adventuring. During warmer months, I often bring Keaton to the local farmer's market. He is also a regular at my parent's home where he gets to play with their two German Shepherds, Maya and Darby, in their expansive yard. Keaton grew up with the two shepherds, so tends to forget that he is just a tad smaller than them!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Mistakes are to be expected of dogs and can be handled in a variety of ways depending upon the nature of the incident. In my experience, I first access why the mistake occurred, and if there were means I or someone else should have or could have taken to prevent it. Mistakes are almost always a result of human error, not beginning with the animal.
Discipline: |
I have trained Keaton to acknowledge verbal cues. Discipline never goes beyond a firm "no" immediately after an incident occurs.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
As is the case with Keaton, while I am at work they would have run of the house, snoozing, playing with toys, or chewing on antlers. Otherwise time would be spent in our fenced yard playing outside, or following me everywhere I go!

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
My fiancé and my brother both live with me. They are in and out of the house throughout the day, so someone is usually in the home at least every four hours or so other than myself.
Where would dog eat? |
They would eat within our kitchen.
Where would dog sleep: |
In the bedroom with my fiancé and I. Keaton almost always sleeps on the bed with us, even though there is a dog bed in the room, so a new friend would be able to sleep wherever they choose!
Play & exercise: |
I would take them on walks around our neighborhood, allow them to run in our fenced yard and run in my parent's large yard frequently, and lots of play within the house (there are almost always toys flying through the air for Keaton to play fetch with!) Playing in the yard and playing with toys inside happen every day.
How will you exercise your dog? |
Both on leash and restrained to the yard
|
Fenced yard? |
Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
Willing to pick up dog waste? |
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.
Willing to use a crate? |
My fence is made of cattle panels attached to 4 by 4's. I built the fence myself this past summer to expand Keaton's play area in our backyard.

Description of yard: |
Out our back door it leads to our deck. There is a staircase at the end of the deck that leads into a fenced in grassy area with a few small trees. The deck is on the east side of the house, so during the summer there is nice shade provided onto the grass. The door leading to the back also first leads into a small entry area. This area I leave open so Keaton can come in for shelter if it is raining and I can't let him back into the house right away.
