| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
The two of us. We are an empty nest family that have had a few PWC, Currently have 7 year old Forest,, wanting a companion for him.(gentle)
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have enjoyed each of our Corgi's and our son's Corgi when he lived with us. They each had their own personality but each loved people. Roxie was the most fiesty but she loved children and was very gentle with them. We know that Corgi's are herding dogs and we have seen that in each of ours. Whether it is squirrels or birds or kids they each showed the herding. Max loved to play with our daughter when she was an adolescence giving the whole family lots of fun. Our Corgi's have been very intelligent and very loving. Max learned how to open the gate to the back yard with his snout. We had each Corgi from puppy stage. Max was bold and playful. Tripper our lab collie mix was the best watch dog and was great with the kids. She was very protective and never needed a leash.. We used a leash but when we camped, which we still do, she would not leave the campsite. My husband picked Roxie because she was the fiesty one of the litter. She was very gentle and caring with all kids and protected Forest when we brought him home. Roxie was also playful. Forest is kind and a bit nervous. He has the least amount of herding tendency. . Our vet has told us that we have well behaved Corgi's. Besides they are just so cute. |
||||||
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Same as Forest, go with us wear-ever we are able to take him, rides in the car, camping. If unable to go due to weather Forest will stay home in our large back yard which is fenced, in safe weather, or in the house as long as we are expected to be back home in a few hours. We have children and neighbors that are happy to tend to Forest when we are out a little bit longer. We go for walks. Forest has squeaky toys he likes to play keep away so that we will chase him. Each of our Corgi's had a specific bedtime they made and stuck to. Roxie would even head to bed and stop and give us "the Look" if we stayed up late. LOL |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
It depends on the mistake. if they chew, tell them no sternly acting as Alpha. if wanders from yard call to come back and praise when they return so they will come in the future. If they mess in the house take them out at regular intervals tell them to potty then praise them and return inside. Eventually you would be able to tell them to potty and they will.
Discipline: |
When Forest barks and starts toward a stranger we tell him to stop. If he continues we tie him up on leash. When he was small we did not feed him from the table so he would not beg. (that is until my hubby started tossing him bites of his food. ) However he still does not beg. If he jumps on people we turn and ignore him until he stops then praise him on all fours. When he was younger and would nip I would make dramatic response that I was hurt. He stopped. When I discipline I say "no" or "stop" without saying his name. At times depending on the situation I will put my hand on his head or back to get his attention.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
in the house or in our fenced in backyard, or on the road with us. He also goes camping with us.
