Who is this dog for?

Mostly Susan, but Tom helps with care and activities for all our animals.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis are happy, sassy dogs that are a great size for someone who is aging. Owners I've talked with all are advocates for the breed. And who can resist that wiggly butt?!
Much like schipperkes, corgis are independent and smart with some sass. I have researched the breed and would enjoy bonding with one of my own.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would go for walks and/or play fetch, if the dog is so inclined. We look to the dog to see what activities he/she enjoys. Before Vader went blind, we took an agility class. Jake preferred playing with neighbor dogs (in his younger days). Scotch enjoys fetch. They all enjoyed "tuggie."

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Tell it that it did something wrong. If necessary, give a timeout in the crate (if the dog does well in a crate) or a timeout in the sunroom. Isolate the dog somewhere for a few minutes.

Discipline:
See above.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Hanging out with us while we're home (animals are allowed on the furniture). When we are at work, he/she will be crated or shut in the sunroom until such time that he/she can be trusted with the run of the house.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Generally, no, but we have a wonderful neighbor who gives the animals potty breaks or lets in the horses if it is raining/too hot.

Where would dog eat?
We have had our other dogs eat on their own mats in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Our dogs have always slept on the main floor once they can be trusted out of the crate. This would depend on the dog and its personality.

Play & exercise:
We have a large fenced back yard that he/she will be able to use in the morning before work and any time while we're home. We will go for walks and also learn about being a good barn dog after we get home. He/she will have 30-45 min 3 mornings a week before work (and more time the other days). After work will be at least 4 hours.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard
