Who is this dog for?

 Our family. My husband and I and our 14 year old son and 7 year old cat.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have researched the breed and love the idea of it being a smart, good with kids. We are downsizing from our previous beloved German shepherd dog. We have decided that our next dog needs to come in a smaller package, hence investigating the big dog personality of a corgi in a smaller package.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Walks not vigorous jogs/power walks. A recent knee replacement is another reason a smaller dog not requiring vigorous walks is desirable. We attend sporting events for our son (soccer) and would like to be able to bring the dog along. Also we have a large yard with a backyard pool. We entertain frequently, so the perfect dog for us would enjoy lots of attention and being social.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Depends on the mistake…kennel at night or restrict area during the day if having accidents around home. Give alternative things to entertain if chewing or destroying property.

Discipline:
 We have used different methods over the years. With our Shepherd, a disappointed tone or look would make her super sorry. We rescued a Great Pyrenees and he needed a shock collar (only used after a month with a professional trainer) to even pay attention to commands like coming when he was called.

 The dog would need to be cat friendly. Our cat basically ignores dogs, and we like the peacefulness that provide our home. We would give it time, but overall would be an issue if they could not get along.
