Other preferences:
Our children are older–11 and 16. Their mother (we are dad and stepmom; kids are at our house 50% of time) fosters dogs so they are used to being around many dogs of various types and have always been very good with them. They are beyond the 'run and scream' stage of life!

Our other dogs, as I mentioned above, are Neko, a 13 year old corgi mix who still plays with our other dog sometimes (she has to be more careful now), and the doxie-beagle, Bertram, who is 3. Bert is a lover and his biggest fault is that he will push other pooches out of the way to get pets; however, he is not aggressive except for that, and he enjoys being 'mothered' by Neko.

We do both work so the dogs are on their own approximately 9 hrs/day. Bert is crated and Neko roams free. They seem to sleep most of this time that we are gone. So again, a high-energy dog who is easily bored might not be best.

Who is this dog for?

Beth and Tim and our kids

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Our dog, Neko, is a corgi mix (we've been told she is possibly corgi-chow). She has the build of a corgi and from what we've researched over the years, the temperament of a corgi. She is outgoing and friendly, brave (she once protected our youngest from another dog when he was very young!), snuggly and loving when SHE wants to be, and a bit bossy (she lets us know when she wants to go out or to be fed by staring holes into us and then hopping or using her nose to "herd us" where she wants us to go). She showed Bert the ropes when he joined the family and both grooms him and plays with him. She is definitely our "guard dog" who barks to alert us to any suspicious noises, and she has caught her fair share of rabbits and voles in the yard. We love all of these things about Neko, and our understanding is that most of these qualities are typical* of the breed. (*We understand every dog is different!) Neko is 13 so as she gets older we decided to start looking into getting another dog; we are in no major rush and as we understand it, it can take awhile to for the right dog to come into this rescue, so we thought we'd go ahead and put our names in.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
As I mentioned earlier, we are not the most adventure-seeking family. The dog would be a companion dog for our family; they'd be part of our 'pack.' We would play in the fenced yard, go on walks, and lounge together. The dog could play with Bert, play catch with us, etc. Our dogs sleep in our bed and are allowed on the furniture so there would be plenty of snuggle time!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We like the 'reward when they do something right' method–lots of training treats. It depends what the mistake is; if it's going to the bathroom in the house, for example, you have to catch them in the act to make any difference–if we were able to do that, we'd probably just make a sharp noise to get their attention and then try to get them outside right away. Treats whenever they do go outside, etc. When Bert was young and would chew on shoes we adapted to not leave shoes lying around, and/or we'd take away the shoe and give him a nylabone or other chew toy instead.

Discipline:
See my answer to the above; treats when they are doing something right tends to be the most effective in my experience.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
They would spend most of their time inside the house. When we are home, I'd expect that they would be with us and the other dogs. When we are not at home, I'd expect they would mostly sleep, likely in a crate, at least to start.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No, there generally are not people home during the day as both my husband and I work in offices, and our children are in school.

Where would dog eat?
Currently we feed our dogs in separate rooms–Neko eats right by the food and Bert eats in the living room. Likely we would feed a third dog in our kitchen or another area of our house, at least as long as Neko lives.

We feed our dogs Merrick dry dog food.

Where would dog sleep:
Our dogs sleep in our bedroom with my husband and I; they have beds on the floor but always end up in bed with us!

Play & exercise:
When we are home, the dogs are free to go out to the backyard to run around as much as they like. We would also take them on occasional walks. We currently play fetch with Bert inside the house (he likes us to throw one of his stuffed toys and he retrieves it). Bert instigates play with Neko a few times a day.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
We have a black coated chain link fence around our entire backyard. It's a standard chain link fence height (I believe it's 4 ft. tall).

Description of yard:

We have a simple rectangular yard that is partially shaded, maybe 500 square feet (I'm not good with measurements so this may not be 100% correct!). There are some plants that aren't dangerous to dogs, and a grill, and sometimes patio furniture. Nothing like a swimming pool.

Household members:
{Describe all the people who live in your home, include names, ages and interests. For example, Mary Smith, 29, Enjoys cooking, dog training, gardening and running.:75}

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Beth and Tim equally share the responsibility

Willing to train children?
Yes; as I mentioned earlier, both boys are very good with dogs. In addition to the two dogs at our house, their mother owns 3 dogs and fosters upwards of an additional 2-3 dogs most of the time. So they are surrounded by them! Both boys have a very tender and empathetic heart for animals.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes, although I would prefer that the dogs all meet one another before we enter into the commitment just to be sure there is no immediate/concerning dislike; I believe this is healthiest for all the dogs.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
