Who is this dog for?

Matthew Cullen

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the animal itself, the energetic spirit that is intellectual and commanding in any occasion. I've been to a few LakeShore Pembroke Welsch Corgi shows, talked with several of the owners of the dogs to get a feel for how they behave, their needs and how they need to interact. I've wanted a Corgi for several years and held off because I wanted to really make sure I was ready to commit myself to a furry family member. Through a number of online articles, several books and talking with friends (and strangers who are walking them) about their Corgi, I feel I am well equipped to begin this process and welcome home a bundle of joy.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
There wouldn't be many activities I wouldn't do with my Pembroke. However, I would run, hike, go to dog parks, travel, stay in, sleep and eat with my Pembroke. This animal is more than an animal to me, it is an extension of my spirit and a family member.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Pembrokes are extremely intelligent animals so I would address the mistake with the Corgi and take care of it, in the end trying to promote good behavior over negative action behavior treatment.

Discipline:
I would reinforce good behavior with pets/treats and withhold treats and praise when negative behaviors start to appear. There's also the approach of bringing the animal to the point of the mistake and telling them that is not the thing to do.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Ideally with me in the condo or out and about. I work in the city but I have several roommates that have closer work environments that can assist in taking care of the Corgi.
