Who is this dog for?

Our family, which includes the two of us and our two daughters (almost 4 years old and 3 months old)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We recently had to say goodbye to our Pembroke corgi, Sasquatch. She was just shy of 16 years old and had been part of our family since we adopted her at nine months from a rescue. We battled a combination of kidney disease and cancer, with surgery, chemo, radiation therapy and other treatments, but she finally succumbed to her disease. In true corgi form, she was strong, stubborn and loving up until the very end. She was a wonderful combination of energy and playfulness but would also just as readily snuggle up in bed or on the couch. She was very food motivated and would eat nonstop if we let her, so we were very mindful of diet to keep her fit. Sas was “talkative” as we know the breed can be, but this became part of the soundtrack of our house. We actually missed her barking as her condition began to worsen. Unfortunately she lacked early socialization as a puppy and was not friendly with other dogs, but we were able to manage as needed. We knew we couldn’t adopt a second corgi given her personality, but we have always known we would continue to have the breed in our family. We are also open to a bonded pair.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would want our Pembroke to be a true member of the family. From walks and playing in the park to snuggling up together for bedtime stories with the girls. We live in the city but are surrounded by parks and often walk to the lakefront. We also like to get out of the city and go hiking.

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We have always been positive reinforcement focused. Mistakes are mistakes so we do not discipline. Just make sure to praise/reward for desired behavior.

Discipline:
With our prior dog we sometimes needed to use a gentle but firm hold for her to calm if she became aggressive. Beyond this we again focused on removing/redirecting and positive reinforcement.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Sasquatch, our prior dog, had full rein of the house. We do believe in crate training for when we are not in the house, and the crate was the safe space (including from our toddler daughter at the time). While we both work, we have a full time nanny that also loves dogs. As a result, much of the day would be spent in the house/yard with human interaction.

Play & exercise:
