Who is this dog for?

This dog is for me. I am a single young woman living in a two-bedroom apartment, with a great balcony.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to rescue a dog, I have been thinking about it more and more over the past year. I grew up with herding dogs, and am familiar with their characteristics like being protective and trying to herd their owners. I have been looking for a dog breed that matches my lifestyle and personality. I love the breed's size to energy ratio.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live by several parks and nature centers and would love to bring a four-legged friend with me when I go to them. I love being outside. I recently lived in the upper peninsula of Michigan and still have many friends that I like to visit. It is a great area with tons of nature and lakes and I want to share my adventures with the animals and friends of my life. I also love being affectionate and cuddle, that is an activity I would share with my dog too.

Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I think it is important to remember that a mistake is an accident and to have patience when working with a new pet. Most mistakes can be easily cleaned up. It is also important to work on laying down a strong foundation so that the dog knows that the mistake isn't something that should be done again.

Discipline:
I really like using a blend of positive reinforcement, trust, and using firm words to alert them to when what they are doing is wrong. I think trust is really important and having that connection between owner and pet. I do not like raising my voice or being vocally agitated when working with my pets and teaching them discipline. With my cats, I like to use the word 'naughty' which they associate that with something I do NOT want them to be doing.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I have a pretty large two-bedroom apartment. It has a large balcony that faces a ton of trees and nature. I like to be in the living room space/ balcony. My cats really like that area too. I also like watching movies in bed all cuddled up and my kitties like that too.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No, it is just me and my cats here. I live near campus so I am excited to be able to come home for lunch and have the ability to come home and wind down with my pets.

Where would dog eat?
I have a tile-floored kitchen/dining area where I like to eat. My cats have their food in this area. I would put the dog's food in this area as well. The tile also makes it easy to sweep up and clean messes.

Where would dog sleep:
Like I said above, I would like to crate train first and establish a space that makes them feel safe and has their sleeping area. I think that is really important when working with a new animal that you don't know. It keeps you safe and the pup safe. I would probably put the crate in either of the bedrooms.

Play & exercise:
I like to work out/be physically active 4-5 times a week. This is usually between 1.5-2 hrs a week. I am interested in finding fun ways to share my activities with my dog. I also know it is really important that these dogs get exercise because they are prone to obesity and the physical activity will help them sleep better at night. I live a pretty healthy and physical life and I would want to instil that in their life and routine.
