Who is this dog for?

Our family, which consists of Blake and Carrie Thomas, our seven-year-old son, Max, and our two twelve-year-old husky-mixes, Miga and Stella.
We would love to welcome a corgi, but we are uncomfortable with all of the breeders we’ve been able to find online. We’d love to adopt a young adult dog or foster-to-adopt a puppy (or two!).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have had a few friends with corgis and fell in love with their goofy personalities. My husband is very analytical and researches everything. In general, they seem well suited to our family’s personality.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We take walks in our neighborhood and play often in our large (fully-fenced) yard. We have a summer home in central Wisconsin where the puppy would be able to play in the lake and go for boat rides (if it enjoyed those activities).

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Ideally, we catch the mistake in the moment and redirect the dog. We focus on rewarding /encouraging good behaviors.

Discipline:
Our dogs are old ladies and are very well-behaved, so I would definitely enroll in a training class to learn the appropriate current practices. However, we focus on rewarding positive behaviors and setting the dogs up for success by encouraging frequent and appropriate potty breaks, keeping dangerous or expensive items out of the dogs’ reach, providing a safe, private “den” for each pet, and making sure our family members and guests know how to behave around animals.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Hanging out in the home or backyard. In the afternoon, weekends, and vacations, we will go for walks and on adventures in the community and forest preserves.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes. My husband works from home.

Where would dog eat?
The dogs eat in separate spaces in the kitchen. When the weather is nice, the whole family, dogs included, eat out on the patio. There’s always water available.

Where would dog sleep:
Currently our dogs have cozy beds in the laundry room. It’s a spacious room and they will either lay on the cool tile, or snuggle up in the beds depending on the time of year. Depending on the age and specific needs of the corgi, it may prefer a crate, or having a bed in the master bedroom.

Play & exercise:
We have a seven-year old son who loves taking dogs for walks. We also love playing in the yard and wrestling in the basement where there is space to run and play.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
Yard is fully fenced, closely spaced 6” wood. It’s suitable for huskies, so I’m sure it will meet the needs of a corgi.

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Absolutely. We’ve been very lucky that Miga and Stella are very mild mannered and accommodating around new furry friends. And of course, the hermit crabs live in a big ugly tank in Max’s room.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
