Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
For us, as a family dog. | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I love the look of the breed but I also love the energetic, loving charismatic personality. I did agility with a corgi (which is not your typical agility dog lol) and he was just so full of life and he could run so fast, his little legs would just go! When they are happy they just smile. I also love the stand up ears. I dont have a lot of personal experience with this breed, but I have owned dogs before. I have researched some of the common health problems, length of life, energy levels, and typical behaviors.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Family dog. We have horses and live on a 10 + acre hobby farm. The yard is about 3 acres and has so much room to run and play. We have lots of visitors and so there will be plenty of love. I do a little bit of (noncompetitive) agility classes, for fun and for skill building. I find it so much more fun than doing training classes.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |

Willing to house train? |
Yes Willing to do formal training? Yes |
||||||
Do you have a veterinarian? |
Yes | ||||||
Vet contact info: |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Depends on the mistake. Potty accident, put the dog outside more often, try teaching the dog a bell near the door to alarm when it wants to go out, reflect on what I did wrong (did the dog try to tell me and I missed the cue?)
If its chewing on something not for chewing, I will make sure the dog has lots of toys and treats to redirect its attention. I also teach my dogs the word "no." So I say "no" and then redirect the attention to a bone or chew toy. |
||||||
Discipline: |
Like I said before, I say "no" and redirect the attention elsewhere. Most the time, when a dog is being "naughty" or misbehaving it is because the owner is doing something wrong. Not getting the dog enough activity/exercise, lack of attention, better training, etc
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
We are very active outside, so a lot of summer time is spent outdoors. Where ever I am, is where my dogs are. Even under the covers at night… 🙂

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Yes, my husband works from home.
Where would dog eat? |
I have food bowls and water in the kitchen/dinning area. Right now, the dogs I have are grazers, so I leave food out all the time. Might have to make arrangements if I get a chunky doggie and have to put on a schedule.
Where would dog sleep: |
In my bed… with me and my husband. Probably under the covers if he/she likes that 🙂
Play & exercise: |
The dog will get a lot of play time and exercise just being in our big yard and how much we are outside. But we like to play fetch and tug with the dogs in the evenings.
How will you exercise your dog? |
Both on leash and restrained to the yard
Fenced yard? |
Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
Willing to pick up dog waste? |
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.
Willing to use a crate? |
I do not have an above ground fence. I live in the country on a small horse hobby farm. The property makes a U shape, with the house/yard/barn in the middle, surrounded by horse pastures. Horses are contained to a dry lot 80% of the year and then rotated through pastures to graze during the summer. So even if the dog roamed too far, the worst that would happen is be in the horse pasture. Around our properties is more fields where the farmers grow crops. We own some of the woods way behind the property too for hunting. Part of the yard has an underground fence. Ive never used it but I know that it works
