Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Me and my fiancé on the application are looking to adopt a corgi.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I've always wanted a corgi and after doing a lot of research on the breed we think that it would be a perfect fit for our lifestyle. We know that these dogs were originally herders and are built strong and athletic. We are able to provide a loving atmosphere and enough stimulation and physical exercise for this energetic breed. All experiences have been positive as these dogs almost always tend to be pretty friendly, yet protective. We have done research and will continue to do so to better prepare and adapt to the needs of the corgi we receive.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We love to go on long walks especially along the lake Michigan. We are currently looking at dog parks around the neighborhood we just moved to. We would also love to take the dog hiking and any outdoor activities. We also love to play with our dog inside the house with toys. We would love our current dog and our new corgi to be able to play together.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If the dog makes a mistake we would voice that to the dog and let it know with a simple and firm "no" and possibility of a time out. We NEVER hit or scream at our dogs. Negative reinforcement is not a form of punishment we use.
Discipline: |
With our current dog, we let the dog know that what it did was wrong at the time that the behavior or event occurred. We are firm and consistent. We also believe in positive reinforcement. In addition, we do have our dog kennel trained. A time out has worked well for us.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
The Pembroke would spend a lot of the time with me and my fiancé and our other dog. It would be a house dog but also enjoy the outside, as we are an adventurous couple and like doing outdoor activities.

People at home during the day? |
Yes. I am a nurse on night shift 3 days a week and my fiancé works during the day 5-6 days a week. The dogs would only spend an hour or two alone at a time.
Where would dog eat? |
In our house with their own bowls.
Where would dog sleep: |
In the bed with us or wherever the corgi prefers. We have dog beds in the living room as well as a kennel that would remain open. Our current dog sleeps with us in our king size bed.
Play & exercise: |
We have been very active with taking our dog on long walks usually a mile or so. We are also working on finding a dog park around our neighborhood where the dog can roam freely and unleashed in a safe space. Our dog would hopefully play a lot with the corgi inside and outside the house. We make it a point to make sure our dog is adequately exercised and healthy.
