Who is this dog for?

Brian Ji will be the primary owner, he works at home so he will have all day to tend to the dogs needs! Rebecca Yang will also be owner as well, but the potential animal would be at Brian Ji’s residence.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because honestly, they are such lovable dogs! I love how they are so intelligent, and have that “big dog” mentality in a small dog’s body! I also love that even though they are intelligent, they are so loving and sociable as well! My experience with the breed is that I have had a friend with a Pembroke Welsh, and although hair got everywhere, the corgi was just such a gem. My friend would leave his corgi at my place from time to time while he would go on vacation, and it was during these times that I really fell in love with the breed. They just aim to please, and are so happy about it too! I have done a lot of research on the breed, and I understand that I need to be aware of the grooming needs of the corgi, the fact that this is a very active breed so I would have to give it lots of exercise (which is why I waited on getting a corgi till I had a backyard!) and that I will have to constantly mentally stimulate the pup, which is why I waited until I began working from home!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I love to take hikes and long walks, so my potential Pembroke would come with me during those excursions, when it is safer, I will be socializing the Pembroke at dog parks and the local dog beach, but for now, I will socialize my potential Pembroke with my non-ill friends and their pups as well! I will also make sure that we get training for the Pembroke, but my plan is to have the Pembroke accompany me in almost everything I do on a near daily basis! I will also give the Pembroke lots of toys and play with him/her as much as possible to ensure my potential Pembroke always has a lot of attention and love!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would speak to the Corgi in a stern yet gentle voice, but not try to scare the Corgi into submission. Instead, I would give positive reinforcement to the good things, and not confuse the Corgi by giving it positive reinforcement if it made a “cute” mistake.

Discipline:
I would be firm in my speech to the dog, maybe give it a timeout if the dog doesn’t seem to be getting the message. I would never yell at the dog however. I would only give positive reinforcement if the dog exhibits good behavior, but not give the dog a treat if it is misbehaving.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At my residence that I listed earlier in the application. The Pembroke would have free reign in the first floor, and if I am on the second floor, the Corgi would come with me too if he or she would like to.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, I (Brian) work at home because my job allows me to, so I will be with the Pembroke all day.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen, there is enough space for a water and food bowl in the main area of the kitchen without it getting in the way.

Where would dog sleep:
My original plan is to have the corgi sleep in a bed on the first floor, but if the corgi seems really upset about this for a long period of time (1-2 months or more) I am willing to eventually concede and move the bed to my room.

Play & exercise:
I plan on taking the dog on at least three walks a day, once in the morning, once during my lunch break, and once in the evening. He/she will be able to play almost everyday, and I will try to socialize the corgi at least once a week with other dogs, when the Covid situation is resolved, maybe 2-3 times a week.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
