Who is this dog for?

MYSELF

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the clownish behavior of a corgi. This would be my third. The only thing not to love is the shedding! They are so smart. The herding instinct would be a problem if I had kids/grandkids, but I do not. They don't tend to dig. The barking is manageable. They are such drama queens!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I have a large, fenced in yard. I like to play with my dogs back there or take them to the dog park (I'm on the board of the local park). My dogs are allowed to come and go from the house as they please – the doggie door is almost always open!

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I'm not into negative reinforcement

Discipline:
Scolding. Gracie, my current corgi, gets "the naught collar" once in awhile, when she has out-of-control barking. It sprays a little spray of water into the air when she barks. She certainly doesn't need it often, and even telling her that I might have to get out the naughty collar works now. She is so smart.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At my house. I work from home most of the time, even before covid. My dogs have always slept in the bedroom with me and are allowed on the bed if they want. They also have dog beds throughout the house. They also can come and go into the large, fenced in back yard as they please, through my doggie door.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Almost always.

Where would dog eat?
Kitchen. I separate the bowls, so there isn't a chance for food stealing.

Where would dog sleep:
In a doggie bed in my bedroom or in my bed. It is up to the dog. I tend to get 1/4 of the king sized bed. Sasha hogs the rest of it. Gracie likes to sleep in her bed at the foot of my bed.

Play & exercise:
I try to play daily with my dogs outside, playing fetch or tug or just smelling the flowers.

How will you exercise your dog?
Restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Description of yard:

No one is allergic.

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes. I've found the dog park is a great way to help socialize my dogs. We have a small dog area that they can start out in. I think it is good to put up a gate between the dogs, so they can get used to each others scents. My two corgis used to fight once in awhile, and I was not scare to pick up one dog to get it away from the situation, even at the risk of being biten.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
