Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
We've been waiting a long time to have the right environment to welcome a corgi into our home and we finally do! Admittedly, we're new to being dog owners, but I can assure you, we are ready and for all of the right reasons. We are big supporters of the Cesar Millan school of dog training and will treat our future companion with the utmost respect and as an animal and dog first.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Corgis are such a noble breed and generally match our family's energy level. Of course, we were initially drawn to their "cute" and bright demeanor, but after more research and meeting a few sterling specimens, we've come to appreciate corgis as much more than an adorable face! Their reputation as enthusiastic herders, affectionate companions, and intelligent learners make them the perfect breed for us. Additionally, their compact size makes them particularly well-suited to our modest home.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Recognizing that corgis are best balanced when they have proper training, routines, and missions, we would maintain an appropriate regime for our companion. We would go on regular walks, and provide plenty of games and tasks to keep our corgi sharp and adequately active. We also recognize it's important for corgis to remain social, so we would have plenty of trips to the dog park and intentionally foster relationships with family and neighbor dogs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If the mistake just happened, we would confidently (but carefully) note the undesirable behavior with a firm "tisk" sound and possibly a light nudge to let it know it is not the behavior we want. Then, after a short amount of time, we would encourage a positive behavior and reinforce it with a treat. If some time has passed since the mistake, we would correct it if it happens again, but otherwise ignore it. We would not want to confuse it if it might not understand why the correction is happening.
Discipline: |
Only light corrections as mentioned above in the moment. Never ever punishment as a dog does not understand. Plenty of positive reinforcement for behaviors we want.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In our home and in the backyard when the weather is nice.
