Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
This Pembroke is for me. I adopted thru your organization in October 2009, Abby. I recently lost 14 year old Abby to kidney failure. She was a wonderful corgi and I couldn't have asked for a better companion and friend.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have had 3 Pembroke Welch Corgi's. The first was a puppy in 1991. Sandy was her name. She was with me until 2005 when she died of kidney failure. My second corgi was Dusty, a rescue from a shelter in Rock Island, IL in 2005. He had some medical issues which the vet said he had probably been a puppy mill puppy. Dusty was with me until early 2009 when the medical issues took over and he couldn't fight them any longer. I adopted Abby in October 2009 thru Lakeshire PWC Rescue, Inc. when she was 4 year old. I drove to Pottersville, Michigan to pick her up from Brenda Franklin who was fostering her. Abby was a wonderful companion for me. She fit right into my home. I lost her not too long ago to kidney failure, she was 14 years old.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I would show the Pembroke the mistake. I would speak gently but firmly to him saying NO relaying in my voice sound disappointment at what he had done. I would then take them out and away from the accident. If I find the accident after the fact and the dog is not around I would just clean it up without trying to bring the dog back to the scene of the accident.
Discipline: |
I discipline the dog only if I catch it in the act of doing something wrong. I never scold him after the fact. I speak gently but forcefully to him to let him know what he did was wrong. There are treats given only for good behavior, I give lots of praise when he does something right. I make sure the dog has his own toys for playing. I give the dog a lot of attention and do not ignore them or leave them alone.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
The Pembroke would be with me. I am retired and spend a lot of time at home. The dog would be with me everywhere in the house and not confined just to a certain area of the house. He would have lot of his own areas around the house and have his own kennel.
