Again, since we live in an apartment, it would be ideal to find a dog that didn't have a loud barking issue. I understand these things can be trained out of, so I anticipate attempting to do that if the dog we're paired with barks too often.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Both of us. | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have spent the last couple years wanting a dog but have not had the schedule or lifestyle to provide a stable home for one, so I've spent most of that time researching what kind of dog I would get when the time is right. Although I don't have experience with the breed in person, from that research, I've concluded a Corgi would be the best type of dog because (it sounds like) they are both a cuddly breed who wouldn't be unhappy in an apartment, but would also have enough energy to accompany me and my husband in our moderately-active lifestyle. I love how playful and funny they can be and think they are just so charming. I also love that they are small in size so they wouldn't be uncomfortable in our apartment and can cuddle up with us in bed or on the couch. I also have discovered they are very intelligent dogs, so I look forward to all the ways I can train him/her. I have grown up with dogs in my family my whole life, so the biggest thing I look for in a dog is one who is loyal and engages meaningfully with its owner, as the relationships with my family dogs have been so full of love and affection, that I can't wait to have one of my own.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Regular walks downtown and on a trail. I also live less than a 5 minute walk from a dog park, so I would anticipate going there frequently. They have an off-leash area that I think would be great for the dog to play fetch or just to run around freely. My husband and I also love hiking so, once the weather gets warmer, we would love to take the dog on a hike. Primarily though, I am a very affectionate person when it comes to dogs so I would love nothing more than to spend our time at the apartment cuddling and playing with him/her.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I plan to enroll in online training for the dog, so I would hopefully have more guidance on this but in my experience with my family dogs, what I do is make them look at me and sternly say "No." I am not comfortable with physical punishments unless the trainer told me it was absolutely necessary (and only if it was something minor like tapping the dog's nose or something like that)
Discipline: |
With my family's dogs, I have redirected/guided them to what they are supposed to do when they are doing something wrong.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |

Where would dog sleep: |
If he would like to and it is recommended, he is welcome to sleep in our bed. I am also open to the idea of purchasing a crate to be his safe space, where I could lay a comfortable bed for him.
Play & exercise: |
My husband and I already take regular walks, so we would bring the corgi with us, adding a stop to the dog park that we pass by. We normally walk once a day but plan to prepare for at least 2 walks a day if/when we get a corgi. I would also utilize the off-leash area of the dog park to let him run freely and play fetch. I do not have my own yard, but I feel this fenced-in dog park would be an acceptable substitute.
