Who is this dog for?

Me! I have been contemplating a Corgi for quite sometime, and now am at the perfect point in my life to give my companion the love, time, and care not only required, but deserved.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My girlfriend’s family has two 8 year old Pembrokes. During the COVID-19 quarantine, I spent 2 straight months at her parents house. I quickly fell in love with the breed. Specifically their intelligence combined with loyalty to their humans! I grew up with Labs, and corgis remind me a lot of a mini lab.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Everything. As long as their stubbornness allows it haha! Would love for the dog to be active enough to go on walks, enjoy fetching tennis balls, and being outside all seasons of the year. My family has a cottage on a lake, so it would be great if the dog is a swimmer or likes swimming, as there will be LOTS of opportunity for that. And of course, I’d be very happy with a cuddler who likes to sit by their owner on the couch and around the house.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I make sure to confront the mistake immediately/at time of mistake. During those times, my family has always used vocal discipline through the key word “No”. I plan on doing this as well. We are also big on all the key things like taking away what they shouldn’t be chewing on and replacing with what they should be, then praising them for that. I mean, context is probably important in this question.

Discipline:
Verbal and attention. Especially with dogs like Pembrokes/Labs that seek the approval of their owners. And when I say attention, I mean temporarily ignoring them if they are doing something like barking / not playing nice.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At my Grand Rapids house, where I live. It has a great outdoor area for the dog to play.

People at home during the day?
Yes and no? I mean, some days we are out and about, but most days I work from home, and when I don’t Becca (my girlfriend) is home. In short, no, the dog will not be left alone at the house every week day for 9 hours a day.

Where would dog eat?
At my house in a designated spot where food and water will be.

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever the dog feels most comfortable.

Play & exercise:
My brother just got a puppy lab last year and lives just down the block. These two will be best friends. Also, Becca and I are marathon runners, so plan on lots of walks (hopefully short runs too). Dog will walk and play daily.

How will you exercise your dog?

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
