Who is this dog for?

2 person household. Married couple. No kids now but possibly in the next 3-5 years.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have researched them and fell in love with everything about them. How social they are and how much they love attention (just like me!) love their size as it seems perfect for a 1500 sq foot ranch. Love the friendliness as we love having friends and family over. Rumor has it that they are smart too, which would be so fun for teaching fun tricks and watching them problem solve.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Short but frequent walks. Plenty of room on this couch for a friend that wants continual head scratches (and will probably need to be brushed as we wind now at night!) and attention. I am able to work from home here and there and my husband starts much earlier than me and gets off earlier so someone will be home 18 hours a day or more depending on if I work from home that day. We have visitors a lot (though not much because of covid) so lots of friends around as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I believe our style would be similar to the positive reinforcement style. Teaching the dog the right thing to do. Would likely teach to sit and stay if around items they aren’t allowed to touch. Firm comments. Also making sure they’ve always got items and friends to enjoy so there’s less time for mischief.

Discipline:
Likely firm and clear no, and take an item away or make sure they’re moved away from the item they aren’t supposed to touch. I believe presenting them with a toy or item to replace the trouble they’ve been getting into.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our living room

House dog

People at home during the day?
Sometimes from 8:30 to 3:30 we are gone. I leave at 8:30 if I’m in the office that day. Husband usually is home by 3:30.

Where would dog eat?
We would likely keep their bowl in the living room as there’s a nice corner for them to have some room to eat undisturbed.

Where would dog sleep:
We would purchase a bed and crate but keep the crate open at night. And would just go in there if they need! We would keep our bedroom door open as well.

Play & exercise:
I often go on walks at lunch when I work from home. We are regularly outside as long as it’s 40 degrees plus and our pet could be with us.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Yes, and I don’t plan on them interacting much, as tink and diesel stay in their bedroom except for special occasions where they get to race down the hallway to get a bath 😉 diesel likes to walk on a leash here and there, but since they could get lost in our reclining couch, we don’t let them roam. Can provide pictures of their bedroom and gate
