Who is this dog for?

Our family: single mom, two teens, 5yo male PWC, two cats. Boyfriend here on weekends.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Love my corgi! Smart, beautiful, affectionate, sassy, trained/s easily (obedience & agility). Don’t love the fur, but have learned to live with it being EVERYWHERE! My corgi is very vocal, but when I started working from home last March, we had to work on that. He’s still very vocal, but does far less loud barking and more low, quiet barking. It’s very livable now, even on zoom calls. ?

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, doggy daycare and as I mentioned, re-starting agility soon. He’s also a pretty happy couch potato, with my bed, my lap and on my feet being favorite spots.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Stop the behavior, show the correct behavior, then praise. E.g., dog’s peeing on the floor, say ‘no,’ take them outside and when they resume peeing, praise.
If it’s after the fact, I don’t do anything.

Discipline:
I don’t know if this is discipline or training?? I have a vibrating/shock collar that I used to train my corgi to not bark at every single noise. I used the noise and vibrate functions almost exclusively, however, there were a very few times when he got a small shock (I tried it on myself first, to adjust the level). For regular obedience and agility, I used a plastic “choke” collar? This was recommended by the teacher because using a regular collar and leash simply did not get my dog’s attention. Really, there’s no need for discipline – he’s well trained and well behaved.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside with us, backyard with or without us, front yard with us, in the car, on a walk, doggie day care 1x/week (if she likes it).

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Now, almost always. Even if I return to the office, my schedule overlaps with my kids’. Dogs would be alone 900 am – 300 pm, at most. And likely only 3 days/week. Less, maybe, when my kids have one of the very frequent “in-service” days off school.

Where would dog eat?
Kitchen

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever she wanted – my bed, one of my kids beds, floor/rug, crate, if she preferred.

Play & exercise:
Almost daily walks, adding agility in the park a couple days a week. She can be in the backyard as much/little as she’d like.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
5’ wood fence in back yard. Super solid. Invisible Fence in front yard. I never leave my corgi alone in the front yard, but it’s very nice to have him outside with me when I’m gardening. I can keep an eye on him without having to worry excessively that he’s going to leave the yard.

Living arrangements:
Own home

Landlord info:
{If you rent/lease your home, please list the name, telephone number and email address of your landlord. State “Not Applicable” if you own your own home.:67}

May we contact your landlord?

Lease allow dogs:

Landlord permission:

Restrictive covenants?
Not applicable

Breed/size restrictions?
No

Description of yard:

Back yard is garden and paths with shaded brick patio. No grass. I’ve trained my corgi to stay on the paths/patio and he’s never shown interest in digging in the gardens, so that’s great. He pees/poops on the paths and I clean it up. His fav activity is running off the squirrels and occasional bunny. The front yard is grass and he enjoys that when I’m outside with him.

Household members:
{Describe all the people who live in your home, include names, ages and interests. For example, Mary Smith, 29, Enjoys cooking, dog training, gardening and running.:75}

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Jennifer Freeman

Willing to train children?
My children are very good with all our animals and have participated in the obedience & agility class work we’ve taken. We’ve also had fish, aquatic frogs, hamsters and rats in the past. They will certainly help with our pets, but I know ultimate responsibility lies with me.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
* My cats are not friendly when my dog chases them, otherwise they are friendly or simply ignore him. Yes, we would definitely work to successfully integrate a new pup into our existing menagerie.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
