Who is this dog for?

Myself and Son (50%)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My family dog (Joey) passed away a few years ago, and my son is of the age that we are ready for him to experience his first dog. I grew up with MANY animals (mostly dogs) but Joe-Joe was by FAR the favorite. My mother works as a receptionist to a local vet, so she was always bringing her work home :). Joe lived to be 12 and was by my side until the end. I was the one to take him to obedience classes when he was a pup, so he gravitated to me the most. He learned everything SO quickly, so much that he was aloud into the advanced class well before the age requirement. He learned voice and hand commands. When I moved out, he came with me. One day I came home from work and he was just laying there…like he was waiting for me. We rushed him to the vet to discover he had a tumor on his heart. He died during surgery that day.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My Joey was born in the winter months here in Michigan, so he LOVED the snow! Idk if that's common with the breed or just good timing, but he loved it. Everyday when I got home, his hearding instincts would always kick in and he would run circles around me….through my legs and around my back.

My new home has a dog park right within the community, fully equipped with ramps and tunnels and fully fenced in. Also has a nice little "shower station" to rinse and dry during muddy days.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Taking them to the 'mistake' and firmly saying "No! Bad dog!" and expressing disappointment in my face and tone. Maybe take them outside depending on the type of mistake. Level of disappointment pending the timing of the event. If caught in the act, maybe a little more drawn out.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement for good behavior. Brief shame and disappointment for bad.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside the home with me. I work from home most days.
