Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Myself I recently lost my Corgi male to cancer & have been lost without him. Corgis are fantastic companions. |
||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have had PWC’s in the past & have enjoyed all of the personality quirks of the breed – loyalty, intelligence, their smile, friendliness, easily trained, wanting to please/be with their human, & silliness. The size is just right. I have had other breeds in the past, but nothing compares to a PWC. As I stated earlier, I recently lost my 11 year old Corgi to cancer. He had been with me since puppyhood, I decided that if I were to get another Corgi, I would rather rescue a PWC as many of these wonderful dogs are in need of a good home.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
As I live on a farm there are lots of things for us to do – walking, gardening, going for rides around the farm, going on errands, etc. I am looking for a companion, so that is what he will be.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |
Yes | ||||||
Willing to house train? |
Yes Willing to do formal training? Yes |
||||||
Do you have a veterinarian? |
Yes | ||||||
Vet contact info: |
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}
Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
With a firm no, then either removing him from the situation or doing a quick retraining moment. Yelling & hitting a Corgi only serves to break his trust.
Discipline: |
Positive re-enforcement – whenever he exhibits behavior that ensures his safety & well-being or behavior that shows that he is a good member of the family, that behavior will be acknowledged. Depending on the age & previous training of the Corgi that acknowledgement could be verbal or edible.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
He would either be with me in the house or outside in the yard. If outside, he would be supervised until he learns his perimeters. Learning his boundaries will be one of the first behavioral trainings that we would begin.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Yes – me. I am also recently widowed as well as retired. He will rarely be left at home alone. If he is left, it will be in the house. |
||||||
Where would dog eat? |
In the kitchen | ||||||
Where would dog sleep: |
My Corgi have a bed on the floor next to me. I am not a big fan of dogs in their human’s bed.
Play & exercise: |
When I go out, he goes out. There will be lots of opportunities for walks. As soon as I figure out if he likes to chase balls or anything else that he finds safely entertaining, we will add that to his playtime. As I indicated previously, until he knows his boundaries, I will be supervising his outdoor time. Spending time with him teaching those boundaries will be started during his first days living with me. Knowing that he knows his boundaries is very important to me
How will you exercise your dog? |
