Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have owned Welsh Corgis since 1998. We fell in love with the breed. They are smart, loveable, adorable dogs that do well with children overall. They have wonderful big personalities which can be good and bad as they can be stubborn. They give us so much love and the last 2 we have had have been rescues and I want to give another Corgi its best life.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We go on lots of walks, they both currently have alot of toys that the younger one loves to destroy. The kids will play tug with them and we also throw the toys for them. The youngest likes to sleep in bed with us at night, the older one prefers her dog bed. We have a big yard and the kids will run around outside with them as well as going for walks at our nearby park. The youngest is good friends with a jack russel mix and likes to play with him.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
We have had many a "pee accident " in our house, lol! This currently only occurs if the dogs human missed her signal that she needed to go out. Our older dog no longer has great bladder control so we let her out very often. No discipline for the older dog as she can't help it. If the younger one has an accident, she tends to know she did it and will look very guiltily. So we remind her where the door is and tell her she needs to go there to go out and usually change our voice tone to a stern one. They are very smart dogs so it doesn't take much more than a change in voice tone to let them know they did right or wrong. They also get a treat when they go outside so that reinforces them to use the door.
Discipline: |
Again they are so smart and easy to train for the most part. So just a change in voice tone, saying good dog! or bad dog! is all it takes. We used a bell system on our door with the last dog to assist her in knowing which door to use and she easily caught on. We also give our dogs small training treats when they get it right.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our dogs have free range inside our house, so most of the time they are inside with us. When kids are in school, one dog stays in main bedroom and other dog hangs out in kids room.

House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
My husband and I both work. The kids have school but they are older now so both are home by 1pm. They assist with letting the dogs out and taking them for walks, play time etc.
Where would dog eat? |
Each dog has its own bowl for food and water inside the house. We have 2 separate areas as one dog likes to scarf down all its food instantly and the other eats through out the day. We would have to see what the new dogs preference is, but would always be eating inside the house.
Where would dog sleep: |
They tend to sleep where ever they prefer. We bought our last corgi a dog bed as that is what our prior corgi likes but its never been used. She prefers to sleep with a family member on our own beds. So one has a dog bed in our room and the other sleeps in the actual bed with her humans.
Play & exercise: |
yes. We have 4 families members that all take our younger dogs on walks. we also play in the yard if a family is outside with them . There is a park nearby for longer more nature walks than just going for a suburb walk as well also where they can run free. We are planning to fence our yard, but its very large so its expensive to do so.

No, some of our current pets are not friendly toward dogs
Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away? |
yes. Our older dog has gotten to the point where she tolerates they younger one, but does not have any interest in the other dog. She came from a rough home where another dog had attacked her. She prefers to be left alone. They have both gotten to the point where they can be by eachother but it took us some time. The younger dog will be hesitant at first but as long as the dog is the same size as her she is usually happy to play.
