Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Applicant #1 – Myself | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My first reason to adopt has to do with the breed's popularity and the desire to give unwanted dogs a chance. The second reason is that with my full-time job starting with a puppy may currently not be ideal (Yes, I know I indicated I would take a puppy. Understand, it is not impossible for me to take care of one. Doing so, however, would not be my first choice, at present). My last dog was a Pembroke. Because of him I fell in love with the breed; their quirks and personality. I did extensive research on the breed before getting my last dog to ensure the breed fit my lifestyle.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I would like to acquire a CGC certificate and hopefully do some therapy work. Maybe get into some Agility in the area, if possible.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |
Yes | ||||||
Willing to house train? |
Yes Willing to do formal training? Yes |
||||||
Do you have a veterinarian? |
Yes | ||||||
Vet contact info: |
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}
Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
With patience and understanding.
Discipline: |
Managing any dog is like managing a child. I believe in being firm, but fair. I have learned with my last dog (a Pembroke Corgi) that they know by the tone of your voice that they did something wrong. They want to please and when they don't they are not happy about it. Disciplinary action is only necessary when it is necessary. Most of the time, if you say 'No' and they know what that means and that is all you need to do. Since Corgi are known to be stubborn patience helps a lot too.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In the house. I intend to take the dog on long walks to help keep it mentally and physically healthy. Some play time, training and longer strolls will be outside as the weather allows. Where I live the weather is ever changing. We get dry heat and humidity in the summer along with thunderstorms (some can be severe); snow, sleet and ice storms in the winter; everything else in the spring and autumn.
