Who is this dog for?

Me!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've done a lot of research, and Corgis are one of the most affectionate and loving breeds I have experienced. As someone who has struggled with anxiety, I think caring for my own Pembroke will give me an opportunity to refocus myself. The bond that comes along with pet ownership is something that I think I would benefit from greatly.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live less than a block away from Buena Circle dog park, and would love to take my Pembroke to socialize with other neighborhood dogs. I would also love a companion to come with me to the lakefront and explore the outdoors. Montrose Dog Beach is also nearby! My dog-owning friends in the neighborhood would be excited to introduce a new four legged friend to their doggie social group.

I would also love the opportunity to work on training my Pembroke – I am so amazed at how smart and witty dogs can be. It would bring me so much joy to experience that first hand as a pet owner. So much so that I'm grinning ear to ear while typing this out.

No

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I believe that the best way to prevent mistakes is to reward good behavior rather than punishing bad behavior. At the end of the day, dogs are truly just trying their best. If a mistake is made, I'd want to redirect them to show them the correct behavior. For example, if we're getting a bit rough during playtime with bites, I would redirect them to a toy that is meant for biting and playing.

Discipline:
If necessary, I would likely want to use a designated "time out" area (not a kennel as that is their safe space). For biting and rough play, I've read that the best thing to do is to disengage until they've calmed down.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me! I work from home and my job offers me flexibility during the day, meaning that I could step away at any time for a potty break or a quick playtime.

People at home during the day?
Yes, I am home all day on workdays and would spend much of my free time with my Pembroke as well.

Where would dog eat?

Where would dog sleep:
I'd be happy to allow my corgi to sleep on my bed with me if they are comfortable. If they are crate trained, I am also happy to let them be in their safe space for the night.

Play & exercise:
Daily! I already go on daily walks or bikes, so I am used to being active in my neighborhood. There are plenty of dog-centered outdoor activities around me that I could utilize. I also have several friends with big outdoor spaces where my Corgi would often get to visit.
