Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Christine and Wally | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have adopted 2 different corgis over the past 20 years. We are familiar with the barking, shedding, and quirky attitudes that each individual brings into the family. Our first was a female sable, Emmy. Very quiet and was the small (25lbs.) and was given up to adoption because of Alfa issues with another corgi in the same household. Our 2nd was a Tri, female, larger 935 lbs), and a total character. Frannie was given up for adoption because the owner ran a daycare and it was too much to take on. We love the breed, their quirkiness, and dedication. Both were barkers and shedders….big deal. We managed to work with that and with our 1st, went to obedience school for walking. Whoever said you can't teach an old dog new tricks is a fool. |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
No! Revisit to me as to why this happened and work with the pet. For example, it chewed a shoe….was it upset for some reason, was the dog nervous for some reason, what is it always some specific person's shoe? We have been down this road many times. Often, it's more of getting to know each other and their and our quirks. It takes about a year to figure it out. It's not about yelling or beating the family pet, it's about including the pet into the family and everyone working together, building trust so we do not have the frustrations.
Discipline: |
Treats, praise as a reward. A naughty dog, no treat, and ignore for a bit. I would never timeout a dog in a kennel or room.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In the house or outside. We have an invisible fence, my husband works from home ( even before the Pandemic). Both of our last corgis enjoyed just sitting outside on the front step in the sunshine, year-round. It's always been a dog in-dog out lifestyle at our house.
