Who is this dog for?

Jeff and Heather Briggs

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My last dog, Rascal, was a corgi mix. I adopted him from the local SPCA when he was 10 years old and he quickly became my best friend. He was very loyal and would never leave my side. Suffering from an anxiety disorder I found I was more comfortable when out walking with him because he was very social. People would stop and start a conversation because of him. He helped me come out of my shell. These two traits I want in my next dog. In addition I want to train this new dog by taking and passing the AKC's CGC test. Corgis I know are a smart breed who love to work and feel they are perfect for this. Passing this test would improve my confidence but also open the door to more activities.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Besides the basic play around the home we have a nature preserve next to where we live that we frequent. There are also other trails and parks in our area that we visit. Also, as mentioned above, I hope to take and pass the CGC test.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I walk up to the dog and firmly say no and let them know that I'm disappointed. If the mistake is making a mess in the house I would follow that up with taking them outside.

Discipline:
We use a time-out method. We make the dog sit and stay until we release it. We also speak to it in a disappointing tone of voice.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Depends on the time of year. On average our dogs are outside 25-30% of the day. When they are outside they are always supervised.
