Who is this dog for?

For both my boyfriend and I! We are corgi fanatics, and have done a lot of research on the breed, and would love to be corgi parents. We would like a puppy, but we know there are plenty of corgis in rescues who need good homes. So we were hoping to reach out and see if we’d be a good fit for any in the future. We won’t be adopting until April/May, but we wanted to get our application in in case there is a long waiting list.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We want to adopt a corgi specifically because of their playful/working temperament, their medium size, loyalty, cuddliness at times, and of course they’re just honestly the cutest dog ever.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We like bringing our cat out on walks in his stroller so we’d love to bring our corgi on those as well. We also would get a dog park membership so they could run and socialize with other dogs once they have their full vaccines. We’d also really like to bring him to travel with us when we visit family/go to beaches/ go to trails and woods. Also I’d love to get my corgi in a training class so they can become a K-9 Good Citizen in the future. Oh and we’re close to Purdue University and they have a charity event with corgi races/talent shows/ costume contests so that would be a fun event to be a part of for a good cause.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would use a firm vocal “no” and redirect them based on what training I was doing, but absolutely no physical negative reinforcement.

Discipline:
– Instead of discipline necessarily I plan on having a lot of structure for my dog. I want to use crate training focusing on creating a safe den like environment for my corgi to eat and sleep in. Also I want to create a steady cycle for my dog especially if it’s a puppy I.E eat, go potty, play time, take a nap. I also want to use a lot of positive reinforcement training for pottying, walking on a leash, sitting, staying etc by using clicker training and treats.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
They would spend most of their time with us/in their den if they need rest time. We both work from home so they would get to be with us often, if that would change I plan on getting them into a doggy daycare.
