Who is this dog for?

 For both of us, but Shelby will be the primary owner.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We are drawn to Pembroke Welsh Corgis because of their charismatic temperament, energy levels, intelligence, size, and overall cuteness. My (Shelby) step-mom is an equine veterinarian, so I have spent time around many corgis at horse barns (very popular dog breed in horse community). We are done extensive research on the challenges of owning corgis (resource guiding, back issues, genetic conditions) as well as the many benefits. We have done research on their intelligence, trainability, and what lifestyles best suit the dog breed, though we realize each individual is different.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We are hoping to go on two walks a day, as our apartment is directly on a nature preserve that is quite dog friendly. In addition, we are hoping to take the corgi on longer hikes at state park, for rides in our kayaks, and to socialize with other dogs at parks and suburban areas.

Play & exercise:
 We will provide opportunities for twice-daily walks, playing in our apartment, and visiting dog parks/structured socializing events. We plan to walk our corgi twice a day: a smaller walk in the morning with a longer walk/play time in the afternoon. We also plan to do one 'larger' outdoor activity on weeks like a hike for several miles at a state park (flatter terrain).
