Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I had Lola for all 14 years of her life. She was my soul dog. She was the first being in my life to show me what unconditional love is. I went through all the corgi behaviors with her. We trained together, laid together, and loved one another. I had TPLO surgery when her knee got bad in 2013, she had cancer removed from her side in 2018, she laid with me when I had neck surgery and weight loss surgery, she trained with me to keep the weight off. When she turned 13 she started losing her back legs (not DM) and we got her a cart, and a wagon, and she rode in a backpack when our hikes were too long. She was the absolute love of my life and my child. It's not just her but the breed itself. They're smart, and silly, and sassy, and strong. They're wonderful and horrible dogs all at the same time in all the best ways.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Hiking, with a backpack if they need it. We live in Minneapolis near the chain of lakes and I go to the lake twice a day for a walk Laila is almost 14 (labweiler) and she rides in a big wagon when she gets tired, and I have the backpack for Lola (or the new corgi) if they get tired. We bring them everywhere, we don't go on any trips that we cannot bring them on. We don't let old age stop them from being able to explore with us, we just change the way they navigate it. I also work from home, with 2-3 office days a month, this is eventually going to go to a hybrid model but not for some time. So I will be home with a new friend.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Redirection. The only thing I can think of as a mistake is going potty in the house or biting/aggression. It's all about redirecting the behavior to outside for potty, and a stern no for biting, then training if it is an issue
Discipline: |
Redirection and firm no's. I believe redirection is always the best way to teach a dog, just bring them to their approved action and repeating that until the behavior stops.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
With us in the house. I am home most of the time, we live in a small apartment, so free range in the house, they are welcome in the bed if they like that, otherwise we have dog beds throughout the apartment for them. We do not believe in outside dogs.
