Who is this dog for?

It is for myself and my husband.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have both been around several corgis, as family members have also adopted them. We both fell in love with their sweet nature and funny antics. They're very charming and, oh, so cute.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We plan to go on as many walks as our dog needs, play with him/her on our large property, there is a park less than 3 miles from our house that added a lovely dog park area that we will take our dog to often. I spend a lot of time outside when the weather is nice and I would love to have a dog to share that outside time with. We also plan to do profession obedience training with our dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
For example: If it is a housebreaking incident and I catch him/her in the act I would firmly say, "Outside", and them immediately take the dog outside. He/she will be rewarded with a treat if they finish outdoors. If he/chews something they shouldn't be chewing, I will take that item away and replace it with an appropriate dog specific item to chew. We will use positive reinforcement.

Discipline:
As stated above, we plan to use redirection and positive reinforcement
We have already discussed crate training with several very knowledgeable dog owners that we know and plan to use it *properly*

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home with us, having free, but supervised, roam of the house.

People at home during the day?
I own/operate an alterations and custom sewing business but I work from a studio in our home so I'm home almost all day, every day.
My husband works 8am-4pm Monday – Friday and is home evenings and weekends.

Where would dog eat?
In our kitchen

Where would dog sleep:
In his/her crate in our bedroom until he/she has adjusted to our home. After that, he/she can continue to sleep in our room at night if that is what makes the dog happiest. As a seamstress, I will also make several dog beds and place them throughout our home so that out Corgi can pick his/her favorite spot.

Play & exercise:
Since I am home all day and enjoy play time so much myself that he/she will get as much play time as he/she wants/needs. Our property is 3/4 of an acre, most of which is back yard, so he/she will have lots of room to play and run. I also go on frequent walks and will take our dog with me.

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke would be my companion animal and friend. I am a 30 year old single man who works from home and has a secure job. I live by myself and have no other pets, and my adopted Pembroke would get 100% of my love and attention. I have a fenced yard and am willing and able to provide my Pembroke with plenty of exercise and stimulation. I am nearly always home. If I am gone for longer then 4 hours I would hire a dog walker to visit during my absence. I have previously had all types of cats, dogs, and caged exotic animals, so am well versed in proper feeding, vet care, and life long nature of a adopting a pet. I would prefer an adult dog who is already housebroken. I am open to purebred or mixed dogs. Willing to consider special needs or elderly dogs as well.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I know several people who have Pembrokes. I have gotten to play with them more than once. I think they are beautiful dogs with lovely personalities. I love how they are smart, bold, and can be mischievous. But with love and consistent positive training, they are amazingly loyal dogs who want to learn how to make their owner happy. I think the "big dog in a small package" is amazing. Corgis offer the benefits of big dogs and small dogs in one!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take my Pembroke for daily walks (2-3 times per day or as often as the dog would like). I plan to socialize my pembroke with other dogs. If it does well with other dogs, I would take it to an offleash dog park and play fetch. I would take my Pembroke hiking and/or jogging depending on how much exercise it can handle. I believe a tired dog is a happy dog.

I like taking road trips and would love my Pembroke to come with me! It's fun to stay in dog friendly hotels and airbnbs.

I'd take my Pembroke to dine at restaurant patios.

I'd train my Pembroke to "come when called", "leave it", "sit" and "stay" at the very least.

I'd buy enough beds and toys so that my Pembroke has a selection of safe comfortable places to sleep around my apartment. I'd take regular breaks throughout my workday to play with my Pembroke. Ideally, my Pembroke would nap at my feet while I work from home, and then would wake up for a walk or game of fetch throughout the day.

I would crate train my Pembroke for their own safety, but once trained I would let my Pembroke sleep in bed with me.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If I caught the dog making the mistake in the act, I would firmly say "No!" or "Stop!" to interrupt the behavior. If I did not notice until after the fact, I would try to positively reenforce the correct behavior while disregarding the bad behavior.

Discipline:
Loud, startling noises are the only method of discipline I would use with a dog. And I would only use those sparingly. If a dog is barking uncontrollably, I may put him or her in a safe space such as a bathroom or crate for a time out (30 seconds max).

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My Pembroke would spend most of it's time at home with me. It would have free range my my home during the day, and would be allowed on the couch and bed. I would provide supervised access to a fenced yard.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes. I work from home full time and am always home.

Where would dog eat?
My corgi would eat in a dedicated place in the kitchen. It would have a place mat with a food and water dish. It would have a second water dish in my bedroom.

Where would dog sleep:
I would train it to sleep in a crate initially. After being crate trained I would allow it to sleep in bed with me.

Play & exercise:
I work from home and control my own schedule. Therefore I can allocate time throughout the day to take my corgi out for walks , exercise and potty breaks. I am active and go walking and running regularly. I would take my Pembroke for a morning and evening walk, along with a lunch time walk if it's not too hot out.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Who is this dog for?

Katherine

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because they have the heart of a large dog in a smaller body. After growing up in a household with large dogs all my life and only being allowed a 40 pound dog limit at my current residence, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi possess several characteristics that make it an ideal companion for current lifestyle, including their loyalty/devotion to their owners, obedience, athleticism, strong will, intelligence, and outgoing/friendly personality. Since I live a single/active lifestyle, I believe the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the right dog breed for me that can grow as my life changes. I want to rescue a Corgi because I want to give my love and a second chance to one that needs it most 🙂

Who is this dog for?

We have been looking for several months for a corgi for ourselves (Lucas and Madeleine)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Lucas had a corgi in the past as a family pet, and loved the general temperament of the breed. In addition to this, we would currently like to have a slightly smaller dog with some of the qualities of a slightly larger breed.

Additionally, I (Madeleine) had herding dogs throughout my life at my parent's home. This quality is a delight to watch, and we would love to see this personality in a dog on the smaller side. We do not have animals we intend to herd, but there is some fun with dogs with this quality.

We have researched the breed extensively and been searching for a dog that would fit us (and them) for quite some time, and we repeatedly have come to the conclusion that a pembroke and its personality would be a good fit for our lifestyle.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We live very close to a park, and would love to be able to have a dog we could take with us to walk and play fetch.

Additionally, though, we would like a dog that can also relax at times and just sit on the couch with us while we watch a movie.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
From experience training corgis and Australian shepherds in the past, I have learned that positive reinforcement is frequently more effective than punishment. For minor issues, I have usually had good luck with a "leave it" command, essentially refocusing the dogs attention onto me and preventing further mistakes. I have also had success with "No More," which has been used generally but is usually related to barking.

Discipline:
Both Lucas and myself are strong believers in positive reinforcement. As I said, the "no more" command has worked well for acute problems in the past, but generally, we have found that we have better behaved dogs when we reward their positive behavior instead of focusing on the negative.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our pembroke would spend most of their time indoors in our apartment as we are frequently be able to be home for work. If this were to change, we would prefer to not crate a dog and would look into daycare options as to avoid this or, if possible, allow the dog to remain in the home.

People at home during the day?
We have options to work from home but generally, we have the ability to leave work during differing lunch breaks (we live 5 minutes from work) to help with daily care.

Where would dog eat?
Our corgi would eat in a designated area, probably within our kitchen area .

Where would dog sleep:
This would largely depend on the needs of the dog and their own personality. We are open to possibilities of crating at night, having a dog bed, or honestly letting them sleep with us.

Play & exercise:
Lucas and I go on daily walks already, so adding a corgi to our walks would be a delight. We usually walk about two miles.
Additionally, there is a park across the street where we could take a corgi for additional exercise.

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I used to have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and I miss him dearly. Unfortunately, when me and his mom split, she retained control of the dog (I was deployed when we separated and I didn’t want to be some stranger taking him away from his mom). I now want to finally adopt a corgi and have a dog again, specifically a PW Corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live right near some lakes, for sure go on walks all the time! I’m next to the Greenway as well. Definitely go on camping trip and adventures together and some night relax at home with a bone and some treats!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Clear and concise commands, in a non threatening tone. A clear “No”. Also, positive reinforcements when they do not make the mistake again.

Discipline:
I usually use a spray bottle and using a stern voice. I try to focus more on the positive reinforcement measure, but if needed, I’ll use the spray bottle as a harmless way to deter bad behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Between my apartment and outdoors. Definitely want to introduce him to other humans and fellow dogs at dog parks!

Where would dog sleep:
Either a kennel or in bed with me. As he is house trained, it will likely end up being in bed or in his own bed next to mine.

Play & exercise:
I enjoy getting outdoors as much as possible, so a lot of walks! There’s the Lake of the Isles dog park near me that we will be frequent visitors to!

Who is this dog for?

Lauren and Andrew

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love the character, attitude and pure tenacity of the breed. We accidentally stumbled upon corgi ownership when we adopted a (very large) dachshund several years ago, and absolutely adored her. With that, we also understand the physical needs of a long and low breed along with how to best train a spirited, curious breed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We are looking for another member of our home, so they would join us for daily walks, hikes, and car rides to local parks and trails. We'd love for the corgi to have a bit of energy to participate but be open to relaxing with us at night.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the timeframe from which we catch the error. If immediate, we either use positive reinforcement of a good behavior or redirect attention to a positive behavior. If time has lapsed significantly (e.g. an accident in the house), we do not address, understanding that the dog has since moved on.

Discipline:
We prefer positive reinforcement of good behavior or redirecting behavior that isn't preferrable.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home. Andrew is a freelance photographer who runs his businesses out of our home.

Who is this dog for?

The Pembroke Corgi would be for us. We would love to adopt another corgi whom we can treat like our own child and would be a good playmate/ sibling to our own 1yr & 8 mos. Pembroke Welsh Corgi (Reeses).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Before we adopted our 1st Pembroke Welsh Corgi (he's still with us), we made a research and we were highly interested in the specific breed. Ever since we got our corgi (Reeses) we fell in love even more and since we have no children yet, we treat him as our own child. We would love to adopt another one to share our love, care, home and on a plus side, a playmate/sibling for our corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We personally play (fetch with a ball or frisbee), chasing game, have long walks and just run around our backyard with our corgi (and other dogs as well).

Us

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love Corgis. We find their personalities to be hilarious and adorable, and are attracted to the smarts these dogs have. We recognize that their personalities can be Frustrating at times, however we too are stubborn people. We have interacted with Corgis at a local meet up and have observed from a distance via Facebook groups. We have been considering how a dog could for into our lives for the past year and have been doing research.

Who is this dog for?

I would be adopting for myself and my daughter.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've been thinking of rescuing for well over a year now, I've finally gotten to a point where I feel I'm ready and comfortable with my finances and living space to adopt a dog. Corgi's are one of my favorite breeds, I've always found their cute faces and stubby legs adorable but I've read up on the website about them and watched informational videos on Youtube. They're a great family breed, they get along well with children and other pets. They're very receptive to training techniques and a very smart breed of dog, which I think is important as this is my very first dog, so training will be new to me but I'm willing to put in the time and effort.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
As I've learned, Corgi's are very intelligent and active, I've heard they're called "a big dog in a small package". I would like to get into training classes with my Corgi, if able take him/her to the dog park and get puzzle toys for them to play with.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would be stern with him/her, try to help them understand what they did wrong. Give rewards and positive encouragement for good behavior.

Discipline:
I hope that attending training classes together with my dog, using positive reinforcement using praise and treats, and being consistent.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home, I live in an apartment building.

House dog

People at home during the day?
There is no one home during the day, I have 2 cats. But I also live 10 minutes from my job, I would be able to run home midday.

Where would dog eat?
I would have their bowl set up in the kitchen, and monitor their meals so my cats don't get into their food.

Where would dog sleep:
Either in bed with me or my daughter, and I would also like to crate train for if some reason they couldn't sleep in the bed with us.

Play & exercise:
Daily exercise is the goal, with multiple walks a day and once we (me and dog) are comfortable enough after some training I would plan dog park play time at least 3 times a week.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Brittany Alba

Willing to train children?
Yes, although I will be the primary caretaker for the dog, I believe it will help my daughter to learn even more responsibility. We do have 2 cats and she helps me with them, but they're very low maintenance babies. Having a dog is definitely a very different set of responsibilities that I will be teaching her.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets dog friendly?

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
My older cat has had experience with dogs before, although I've never owned one myself a friend of mine brought there's over often in the past. She took some time to warm up to him but eventually she was indifferent to him being there. My kitten has not had any experience with dogs, but I have watched a few informational videos on how to introduce a new dog to the home. I will set up separate rooms for the cats as "safe spaces" with baby gates and gradually over time (up to some months) get them used to the new scent and eventually introduce. If at some point there are issues I will start the process over.
