Who is this dog for?

We have been looking for several months for a corgi for ourselves (Lucas and Madeleine)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Lucas had a corgi in the past as a family pet, and loved the general temperament of the breed. In addition to this, we would currently like to have a slightly smaller dog with some of the qualities of a slightly larger breed.

Additionally, I (Madeleine) had herding dogs throughout my life at my parent's home. This quality is a delight to watch, and we would love to see this personality in a dog on the smaller side. We do not have animals we intend to herd, but there is some fun with dogs with this quality.

We have researched the breed extensively and been searching for a dog that would fit us (and them) for quite some time, and we repeatedly have come to the conclusion that a pembroke and its personality would be a good fit for our lifestyle.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We live very close to a park, and would love to be able to have a dog we could take with us to walk and play fetch.

Additionally, though, we would like a dog that can also relax at times and just sit on the couch with us while we watch a movie.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
From experience training corgis and Australian shepherds in the past, I have learned that positive reinforcement is frequently more effective than punishment. For minor issues, I have usually had good luck with a "leave it" command, essentially refocusing the dogs attention onto me and preventing further mistakes. I have also had success with "No More," which has been used generally but is usually related to barking.

Discipline:
Both Lucas and myself are strong believers in positive reinforcement. As I said, the "no more" command has worked well for acute problems in the past, but generally, we have found that we have better behaved dogs when we reward their positive behavior instead of focusing on the negative.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our pembroke would spend most of their time indoors in our apartment as we are frequently be able to be home for work. If this were to change, we would prefer to not crate a dog and would look into daycare options as to avoid this or, if possible, allow the dog to remain in the home.

House dog

People at home during the day?
We have options to work from home but generally, we have the ability to leave work during differing lunch breaks (we live 5 minutes from work) to help with daily care.

Where would dog eat?
Our corgi would eat in a designated area, probably within our kitchen area .

Where would dog sleep:
This would largely depend on the needs of the dog and their own personality. We are open to possibilities of crating at night, having a dog bed, or honestly letting them sleep with us.

Play & exercise:
Lucas and I go on daily walks already, so adding a corgi to our walks would be a delight. We usually walk about two miles.
Additionally, there is a park across the street where we could take a corgi for additional exercise.
