Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have considered the immense responsibility of dog ownership and the type of dog that would be the best fit for our family. The Pembroke's intelligence, loyalty and energy- yet compact size- make it the perfect fit for us. We have researched the breed and its specific needs including the grooming and brushing needs of a Pembroke during shedding season, the activity and exercise needs of the breed, and understand the importance of spine health for a Pembroke. We live in a single story home, but we are willing to provide steps or ramps if needed to accommodate our Pembroke.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We would like our Pembroke to be apart of our lives as much as possible. We enjoy being active and outdoors. We would take our Pembroke on walks and to the park. We would like to take our Pembroke to the lake in summer months and with us to visit friends and family. We also enjoy hiking and would love for our Pembroke to hike with us. That being said, we understand that every dog is an individual and we would accommodate activities to our particular dog's energy levels and socialization needs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Mistakes are going to happen, especially if our corgi has an energetic and playful personality. We expect this. Mistakes will always be handled with patience. We would provide positive and reward based discipline to address a mistake. If a mistake continues, we would consider any health concerns that could contribute to this and we would consult with our vet. We would attend training classes with our corgi if needed.

Discipline:
 We would focus on positive and reward based discipline and redirection as methods of discipline.  We are both home during the day on Saturday and Sunday. One of us is usually home during the day on Friday. Monday-Thursday, our Pembroke would be home alone until 4:30 PM. We are open to the idea of taking our Pembroke to a daycare during the week for play and socialization.

Where would dog eat?
 We would like to consult with our adopted corgi's foster family, if possible, about our corgi's preferred mealtime routine so that we are able to implement this routine in our home. Otherwise, we would find a quiet space in our kitchen or living area for our corgi to eat.

Where would dog sleep:
 We would also like to consult with our adopted corgi's foster family about our corgi's preferred sleep routine so that we are able to implement this routine in our home. Otherwise, we would do our best to provide the type of sleep environment our corgi prefers best. Our corgi would have his or her own dog bed that they could choose to sleep on. If our corgi is crate trained and prefers the security of being crated at night, we could accommodate this as well.

Play & exercise:
 Monday-Thursday our corgi would be provided an hour of exercise by walking on a leash around our neighborhood or playing in our yard area. If our corgi likes to socialize, we would take our corgi to the enclosed dog park in our neighborhood to play (there are separate enclosures for large and small dogs at our local dog park). On Fridays and the weekends we may take our corgi for leashed walks or hikes at local parks and metro parks and, in the summer, spend time playing by the lake.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I love how easily trainable the breed is. The size is also a big consideration as small/ medium sized breeds works best for me now. I’m around a lot of family all the time too with kids so a kid and family friendly dog was also a good choice. I have had no personal experiences with the breed but i have been doing my research on them to make sure that I can provide proper maintence and care.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I have a huge fenced in back yard so plenty of outside play time. I would also be going on walks at least once a day with them to make sure we are both getting plenty of exercise. Not to mention it will always be with someone so inside play time will also be abundant.

 Inside mostly. Mainly in the downstairs area while I'm not home but they will have free roam wherever in the house.

 Me! My name is Grace Cone, I am 21 years old, and live in the Twin Cities in MN.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have loved corgi's ever since I found out about them. I love their personalities and how they can do a lot more than people think they can just because of their size. Other than them being adorable, I think they'd be a great dog for me. This next fall, Fall 2020, I will be living on my own with no roommates except my cat… I feel like I have waited so long to finally have a corgi of my own and for it to be the right time, so now I want to start looking! I have had friends who have had corgi's that I spend time with, but I have never had one myself. My family has only had Portuguese Water Dogs and cats. I've done some research, and I see they used to be herding dogs which is cool – I've been trying to look more at what their activity level would be, for most I see they're pretty active.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I want a corgi that can spend time with me watching movies and being able to have a lowkey night, but can also go hiking with me and can go on long walks. I would consider myself an active person, and I love being outside, so a dog that can be active with me and exercise with me would be great.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I suppose it depends on what the mistake was. I try to handle accidents or mistakes rationally – I work at an animal shelter and act as if those animals are mine. If it's a consistent thing, like potty-training, I would try to use positive reinforcement and use treats/toys as a reward. Then if a mistake was made, then take the reward away and correct the issue.

Discipline:
 My family was big on positive reinforcement, using treats and toys as a reward for good behavior. The biggest thing I would do for discipline would be like a "timeout", or send the dog to a different area of the home (my family would send our dog to their bed/kennel, but I struggle with that because I want them to see that as a safe/good space). Then give treats afterwards to reward positive behavior. If I'm being honest, a lot of dogs we have had have all been really well-trained, so we didn't do a lot of disciplining other than a "timeout".

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 In my apartment! I am moving in the fall to a new apartment in St. Paul where I will be living with my cat. It is a one bedroom apartment.

 We have researched the breed and met a few Corgi pups and just love them. They are so smart and cute. We think one would be a great addition to our family.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We live next to a big state park and go for walks there often with our current dog Cooper. We go camping, play in the snow in winter, go to the beach in the summer, and have a large fenced in back yard with plenty of room to run. Our neighborhood has lots of kids & "dog people" who love playing with Cooper & would love a Pembroke around too.

 This dog would be for me but would also come into contact with and be loved by my three grandchildren and their parents who visit quite often.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My first introduction to this breed was several years ago. Our neighbors at the time introduced us to their 2 Welsh Corgis. I instantly fell in love with their affectionate and smart personalities. I had young children then and the Corgis became instant buddies. I also just love the way they look! Those short little legs and big ears made me smile years ago and still do to this day. One site described them as "big dogs in a small body" and that appeals to me.
I have done research on the AKC website and sites like yours to familiarize myself with the pros and cons of having a Corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Now that I am retired, I have found that my dog has become a much more integral part of my daily routine. I love to walk and I have a bike path just across the street so we would head there on a daily basis.. I spend quite a bit of time gardening outside and enjoy having a dog with me when I do that as well. Playing fetch, petting and being cozy together and hanging out in the evening while I read or watch TV are other activities I have enjoyed with my dogs before and look forward to doing once again.

I would show my disappointment with a facial expression and by saying "no" in a firm but calm voice and then take the dog outside immediately. If and when the dog goes in the right place – outside – I would praise him/her greatly.

 Ok – I will confess – I let my dogs up on my bed if they are comfortable with that. If they are not comfortable with that I always have a dog bed just for them.

 I walk my dogs a couple of times a day. I live near a bike path and that is where I always have gone with my dogs. I like to play with my dogs whether that is playing fetch or just goofing around inside and outside the house. We do that pretty much every day. My daughter and her husband (with the 3 grandchildren) have a boxer mix that is a sweet fellow and my dogs – from the little maltese to the big old lab mix – have always enjoyed his company. I have never been a fan of dog parks. I prefer a more controlled setting for safety's sake.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We absolutely love corgis. They are so gosh darn cute, and smart. We know that they are a herding breed and sometimes can get arthritis. They just seem like such joyful animals and good companions.  We have 30 years of combined Corgi ownership. The breed has a great, strong personality, is fun-loving and are great cuddlers. Who is this dog for?

 I've been this breed's biggest fan for a long time, both for their goofy sweetness that constantly makes my laugh and for that slightly stubborn, independent toughness that also makes them such great working dogs. This dog would join myself and my partner (a field medic and another lifelong dog owner) in our new family-friendly and dog-filled neighborhood near the hospital I work at, and we work opposite schedules so can ensure that one of us will be home with our new family member nearly all the time.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I've been this breed's biggest fan for a long time, both for their goofy sweetness that constantly makes my laugh and for that slightly stubborn, independent toughness that also makes them such great working dogs…plus that Corgi butt, of course. My family had a Corgi mix as a kid who was just the right combination of cuddly and independent, and several good friends currently own Corgis so we'd be setting up some playdates, too!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Our neighborhood and social circle is extremely dog friendly, so plenty of walking and exploring nearby parks. I'd also love to get involved with some therapy dog work in the hospital, but that would be very dependent on the dog's prior socialization and comfort level with noise, smells, and new people.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I used to train horses for competitions (and occasionally still help my mom with her agility dogs) so I know full well that mistakes happen! I just ensure that the dog understands its a mistake, which usually means a firm, disappointed tone of voice if pointing to an accident or simply withholding the treat if working on obedience, but then it's forgotten in a matter of minutes and you move on to the next thing.

Discipline:
 More or less the same as above, plus a lot of positive reinforcement! I try to make it really worth their while to do the right thing, whether with treats, attention, or play, and then there's less of a need for that stern voice.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 In our 2-bedroom, single story unit or out in our neighborhood with us. We have several daycares in the area that have come highly recommended if our schedules change in the future, though at this point there would be little need for a dog walker or daycare while we work opposite hours.

Discipline:

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We are seeking to re-home a Pembroke Welsh Corgi to add to our current pack of 2 dogs. My wife and I owned 2 PWCs for a combined 30 years. Maddie and Basil were our “practice’” children that we got while in Graduate School in 1997 and 1998. They were siblings from 2 different litters. Basil lived to 14 succumbing to rear leg paralysis stemming from spinal issues. Maddie lived to 16 and passed away from cancer, We love the strong personalities of the PWC especially that they believe themselves to be big dogs. They are fun, playful dogs and are especially good at cuddling on the couch and bed. No squirrel was safe from the constant monitoring of their various backyards over the years, but they were both great with the several cats that joined our pack. We think it’s time to add a corgi to our lives again. The kids only have vague memories of the corgis and are ready to participate in any corgi’s care in our household.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Walks in the woods regularly, cuddling, road trips with family, swimming at my parents’ lake cottage(Basil used to retrieve bird hunting dummies in the water with my father’s 110lb yellow – his best friend). Face wrestling with our dogs and chase in the yard.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I adopted Chloe in 2003 from Lakeshore PWC rescue. She died in Nov 2017. I have friends who have corgis, and summer of 2019 got my corgi fix by joining them at a corgi picnic in Wisconsin.
I love their social nature, social butterflies. Good things come in little packages, but they don't know they are little (although Chloe was exceptionally small at only 18 pounds).

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Car rides, walks, visiting friends with dogs.
It also depends on the dog, I did agility with Chloe. I also had a beagle/pointer mix that I took to the local nursing home/rehab to visit with the residents.
