Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have researched the breed and like the idea of a big dog in a small body. Previously we have had Labs or Lab mixes, and while we still like large breeds, we now have a smaller house (1600 sq. ft.) and would like to be able to lift the dog into the car if need be. I’d actually like a Cardigan Corgi (still a fan of tails) with their sturdy bodies and big personalities.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Our main form of exercise is walking, whether on the side of the road or in the woods. We would also like to take the dog camping with us. We live near a small lake as well – great for swimming and fetching in or out of the water.

 Me! My name is Jolie Pont and I am actually looking for an emotional support animal (I do have a prescription and if you would like to speak with a mental health professional that is more than ok). I did some research into breeds and have my heart set on a corgi! I go to school in Florida but am from Chicago originally and would love if I could get the dog during Thanksgiving break.

 The research I have done showed that they are the perfect emotional support animal. Super loving and loyal, not too too hyper. I really feel as if he/she would do super well living with me. I also am aware of a few other corgi owners at my college.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Common training techniques. Some scolding or being put in the crate when something goes wrong, treats when they do something wrong. I have grown up with dogs all my life, so I understand that training can sometimes not be a straight forward process.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have taken multiple matchmaking quizzes with the AKC and other reliable dog resource websites and they all recommend corgis as my ideal match. It isn't just that they're cute, they're also just the right energy level and maintenance for me. Additionally, they're just the right size; I'm a smaller woman, so I have a tougher time walking and caring for my friends' larger dogs when I dogsit because they're much stronger than me. They are also just the right level of independence for me. I've spoken with friends of friends who own corgis about their experiences, and they seem to match up with my impressions of the breed and what I have learned from research. I love how smart they are and how it seems they'll always keep you on your toes.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Depending on their age and activity level, I would love to take mine on my evening walks around my town parks and play some frisbee. If they are up to it, I would also like to take them out hiking with me. I do moderate difficulty hiking in the spring, summer, and fall. I have many friends with dogs, so if they are the type to enjoy time with other dogs, they usually have get-togethers where all the dogs come to one house and run around the backyard to play. I'd also like to take my corgi out to dinner with me at the restaurants with outdoor, dog-friendly areas. Of course, I would also love to have some cuddle time at night while watching TV or reading books.

If they chewed on something important, I would work on converting them to a chew toy instead by discreacting them with a sharp noise and replacing the said item with a chew toy. If they were begging, I would teach them to go to their bed whenever I ate. If they were jumping up, I would turn away and ignore the dog until they relax and remain still (and then I would reward them). For excess barking, I would provide more exercise and find mentally stimulating toys. I would seek the help of obedience classes if this would not work.

If they are friendly with other dogs, my friends with dogs will frequently have get-togethers every other week where everyone brings their dogs to one of their houses and lets them all play and run around their fenced-in backyard.  Corgis are my favorite breed. I have owned 2 of them many years ago. They are a small dog with a large dog personality. They are intelligent, loyal, trainable. They are not difficult to groom. I owned 2 in my younger 20s and was very happy with them. I had a red and a tri-black headed.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Remove the dog from the situation. Put him/her in a time out situation or cage if needed. It would depend on the severity. If it is a behavior that can be corrected, I will show the dog the proper thing to do. Piddles on the floor, I say NO! and take the dog outside to finish and then praise the dog if it goes outside.

Who is this dog for?

 It is for my wife and I. We are a young couple and adore corgis. Instead of getting a puppy we really want to adopt. We want to give it a home and treat it like the best dog in the world!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have never had a corgi. We do adore them, we used to love to take our pets on walks before and love an active dog because it keeps us active. The main thing we love about corgis is there history of the breed and used for herding.

 We would love nothing more to take it to local parks, long walks on our various trails we have. Let it roam in our big fenced in yard. And meet other dogs to play with!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 Well, for starters, Corgi's are the cutest dogs in the world. But other than that, Corgis fit the perfect niche of Amanda's desire for a smaller dog, and Matt's desire for an intelligent and active one.

Our experiences with Corgis have been overwhelmingly positive. Amanda's uncle and a two of our friends have corgis as well. In both cases, we have had time to interact and play with the Corgis both with and without their owners present. It has always been an excellent time.

Our research has only really touched into the basics of the breed, mostly consulting the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America's website and wikipedia.


Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We are looking forward to love and play with the Corgi, and taking it out to play with other dogs. Matt is looking forward to take the Corgi on long walks or even runs if the it is able to. Matt is also looking forward to training a Corgi, whether it is only the basics, or more complicated games like Treibball (boy those youtube videos were quite a rabbit hole once I stumble on them).

 There are farm side rail fences on 2 sides of the lot, and a small water feature in another corner (just 2 small ~1 yard diameter pools with one cascading water into the other. Otherwise we have a small fenced in garden and a variety of trees and open space. It is only .2 acres in Madison so it isn't huge by any means.
