Companion Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital – 1095 Pingree Road, Suite 1200, Crystal Lake, IL 815-479-9119 – Dr. Karen Kuhl also holds appointments at this facility so Cooper has seen her here as it is closer to home for dermatology. Rico has seen Dr Karen Turner for post op rehabilitation – he did water treadmill therapy and currently goes for laser therapy once a month to assist with degeneration in his discs.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have previously had two Corgi mixes. I am in love with their attitudes, activities when herding and their affection. I do not have children nor do I have children that visit my home – I know Corgi's don't generally get along with children. I understand the breed's instinct is to herd – one of my previous dogs would herd her toys from room to room until she was tuckered out.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 My dogs are my children and go where I go when possible. We enjoy road trips, walks, trips to the local farmers market and dog park. We also enjoy hanging around outside or on the screened porch, weather and/or bugs permitting. We go to various dog events locally. Finally we also enjoy down time snuggling on the couch.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Depends on the mistake. In most cases speaking to a dog allows them to know they've done wrong. Then redirecting them to the correct behavior and reinforcing with praise.

 While I'm at work, they would be crated. I feel crating is the safest way for me to know when I'm not their they are not getting into mischief they shouldn't or agitating their siblings.

 My bedroom is on the second floor. The dogs I currently have do not go upstairs with me. Rico had back surgery 2 years ago and stairs are off limits to him. Cooper has arthritis in his front legs and for his safety, he is not allowed to the second floor.

With this said, most likely they would sleep in their crate. I feel this keeps them all on level playing fields and doesn't show favoritism that could affect their interaction with each other.

 Yes! One thing I would like to do before adopting is to have a meet & greet to ensure my dogs get along with the new dog. If the initial visit proves positive, but we end up having issues after, I would work with both dogs to ensure harmony. If I'm not able to correct on my own, I would seek outside help with this.

 Vince fell in love with them watching dog shows, I fell in love with them on Instagram. When we have been out and about we have interacted with many Corgis and just love their personality.

 I have had 3 other Welsh corgi's plus other dogs, and my elderly dad has a corgi mix that will eventually be coming to me at some time.
They are a big dog in a small/med body. They are tough and very devoted and love to play.

 I have a fenced yard and can provide lots of exercise. I also have 17y/o triplets that can use the exercise too!!!
I know how playful corgis are and a good game of fetch is always fun.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I had a PWC for 14 years. I bought him at 6 weeks of age when my sons were 11 yrs old and 13 yrs old; he was like one of my kids. He grew to be my best friend and companion when my youngest son grew up and moved out. He made me happy; he made me laugh; he always made me smile; he was my little scoundrel at times, barking at the neighbors he saw every day (they got used to him!); we played tug of war, hide n seek, I sang to him, he slept in my room at the foot of my bed (I called it 'his' room), I could go on and on. I have had other breeds of dogs in my life, but he, by far, was the best. He was such a character! I have looked at getting another breed, but nothing compares.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I would take him/her to work with me a few days a week; play with him/her; take him/her for walks; camping; bye bye rides; watch tv and cuddle; sing and talk to him/her, etc.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		The only "mistake" I could think of is urinating or pooping in the house. It would depend on the age of the Corgi. I know older dogs just have issues with that and I would already be prepared with pee pee pads by the door; otherwise, if I caught him or her in the act, I would quickly pick him/her up and take him outside and praise him. If I didn't catch him/her in the act, I'm not sure. But I would never yell or rub their nose in it as my parents did with my dog growing up.

 The only thing my Corgi did that was 'bad', like I said, was bark at the neighbors he saw every single day. I would tell him sternly 'NO BARK', but he just looked at me and kept barking. I gave the neighbor treats to give him to try to make friends, but that didn't work. I usually ended up bringing him inside, if I could. I learned my lesson with him…he knew I was a push over. Next time, we will take obedience classes and I will learn the correct way to discipline him/her.

 I have a fenced in back yard; it isn't vast, but it is definitely adequate. I have several trees for shade (my previous Corgi loved to lay in the grass beneath the tree in the shade when I was gardening in the sun). There's a bird bath. No swimming pool; my Corgi loved it when I sprayed him with the water hose though!

 I have loved the historical aspect of the breed and how they came to be. A coworker owns two Pembrokes and they are extremely smart as well as loving. Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I've always loved Corgis! A very good friend has 3 corgis, and I just think they are the best dogs. I love that they can be active, running around, going for sunset walks, and that they can also be big cuddly couch potatoes. I've babysat her dogs several times, and I love that they cuddle in bed at the end of the day.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I love going for walks around my neighborhood (I even walk in the winter). I also live about 5 minutes from a really nice, large dog park. I have lots of friends with dogs, so doggy playdates would be a must. I also ride horses, so my dog would accompany me to the barn.

Discipline:
 I've worked with horses for 25 years and understand that harsh discipline never works, it only creates fear, and animals don't learn through fear. If the dog needed obedience training, I would be willing to take it.
