Who is this dog for?

Myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always had a weakness for Pembrokes. Despite having had little personal experience with the breed, I have done a considerable amount of research into it in order to make sure the breed would truly be the right fit. After reviewing the breed's standard traits and needs, I am confident that it would. I am especially attracted to the high intelligence of Pembrokes and their affectionate nature. Both traits, especially intelligence, are very important to me. I also adore the appearance of Pembrokes. They are the perfect size for me and no other breed has managed to capture my heart quite like this one, with their big smiles and pointy ears.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Go for walks, cuddle and take naps, visit the local dog park (provided s/he would do well in that situation, with other dogs), attend obedience classes and, potentially, agility training.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Reprimanding the mistake if I am present when it happens, but not if I catch it later. Offering praise and rewards upon her/him learning to correct the mistake.

Discipline:
Firmly telling them no and rewarding them with praise and affection when they listen. Adhering to a set of rules and consistently discouraging unwanted behaviors. Removing objects that cause problems. For example, if s/he continues to chew on something s/he is not supposed to, taking the object away and putting it somewhere out of sight. Focusing on positive reinforcement and constantly rewarding good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home with me indoors and, likely, in his/her indoor kennel when no one is home.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I believe that rewarding good behavior is more important that drawing attention to bad behavior. If the Pembroke makes a mistake it is probably because he/she is either still learning or seeking attention. Instead of getting mad about a potty accident (or whatever the mistake may be), my first instinct would be to make sure he/she feels okay (not sick or injured), if not, then I would give them some one on one time and make sure they know they are loved and given the attention they desire.

Discipline:
This will be my husband's and my first dog so we will be learning, but I think we like the idea of not drawing attention to bad behavior, but rather rewarding good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
He/She would spend most of the time in our 2 bedroom, ground floor apartment. I do not believe in crating dogs, so he/she would be alone for about 5 hours Monday-Thursday, otherwise he/she would be under my direct supervision. Occasional trips to grandma's house where there are two cats.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
First, I don't know if our bunny is or is not friendly toward dogs because he has not been introduced to a dog before. He has been introduced to cats and he was mildly curious, but mostly disinterested. He is a skittish bunny, so I think that I will have to do a good amount of training between the Pembroke and the bunny so that they will learn to respect each other's space.

Who is this dog for?

The corgi is for me. I would just love to have a companion, and corgis have always been one of my favorite breeds.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
i really want a corgi becuase it is a big dog in a little dog body! they are funny animals who love attention, something i have plenty to give, and have always been a big part of my life. my aunt and uncle had three corgis when i was growing up and i always enjoyed going over their house and playing with them. Their dogs Dudley, Sam, and Gizmo are the reason for my life appreciation for the dog breed. I know they can be quite loud and rambunctious at times but all it takes is patience and just letting a dog be a dog. I have thought about buying one of my own but i think that would be such a waste when there are already so many good corgis that need homes, and I hope that I am in consideration for adopting one of them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
well there are plenty of dog parks to take him to so he could be socialized around other animals. East Lansing is known for their wild life so i can take him kayaking, take him for walks on a trail. Since i still still visit my parents a lot during the summer we can take him on boat rides to local islands to run around and swim. Me and my family always took our dogs every where with us. And I plan on taking my companion with me where ever i go. just because it would probably be more fun with him by my side anyways!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
well dogs can be dogs. I would just not encourage them to do that behavior so either or wouldnt pet him or give him a treat within that time frame to show him i wasnt happy. But i would make a note of it and find a way to prevent it from happening again.

Discipline:
To me its not about discipling, but rewarding when they do something right. Most of the time a dog wont know why they are being disciplined. So if my dog does something I dont want them to do i will not rewards them. However if they do something that i wanted them to do i will reward them with a treat or affection.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
They would wither spend it in the house with me or out on walks

Who is this dog for?

This corgi is for Cody's parents, Patti and Keith. Patti and Keith lost their dog, Winnie, in October. I've spoke with Patti & Keith personally, and she said that they are ready to care for a new dog, and would love a corgi! There is always someone home at their house, and they have the time and dedication to give to a corgi. We were recommended to Lakeshore Rescue by our neighbors, Mike and Chris Slauson, who adopted their beloved, Karley from you. Cody and I are also huge Corgi fans and one day hope to adopt one of our own. But for now, we are focusing on fulfilling Patti & Keith's Christmas wish. Thanks so much!

Please note: I've completed this application for Patti and Keith in their perspective. All questions and answers are based on their dog ownership history/love for Corgis/want for a dog currently/etc.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've had multiple conversations with Patti and Keith about why they love Corgi dogs. They noted that they love their stature, and outgoing nature. They really want a dog that they can snuggle with, and also take for walks, and they feel that the Corgi can do just that. They've researched the breed and understand its care, shedding, etc. They've had dogs in the past and look forward to adding a Corgi to their family.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
They are excited to take their Corgi for walks, play outside, and cuddle indoors. Patti and Keith are in their mid 60's, and look forward to making the Corgi part of their family.

Who is this dog for?

Looking for a puppy for our nine year old daughter Isabel for a Christmas gift, but if one is not found before then, it is okay. Our family has been looking into adopting/purchasing a Corgi for a while now.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have been following the breed for a while now. We were first interested after seeing pictures of Corgi's on social media and instantly fell in love with the breed. We have never owned a Corgi before, but we have done research online during this process.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a big yard at our house, and nearby parks in our community. Also a dog park is walking distance from our house. Our daughter loves going for walks and to the park.

We own three large breed rabbits. Although we won't leave the dog alone with the bunnies (they are caged), we need a dog that will eventually accept the rabbits and not get overly excited that it will stress out the bunnies/stress out the dog. We do have the space to keep both sets of animals separate but we would prefer to not have to worry about that.

Who is this dog for?

Both of us. Erica Schwoerer and John Young. We have bought bought a house together and will be getting married in the next year or two.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have done some research looking into different breeds of dogs that would work for us as a new family. We found that corgis seemed to be our favorite breed with it's many wonderful characteristics. John has also had some experience interacting with a Corgi in person and enjoyed the dog. We like that Pembroke Welsh corgis are smaller and fairly intelligent (we would like to train the dog to do multiple tricks). We love the look of corgis and think they are a beautiful dog breed. They tend to be good with children and other pets.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
John is really interested in training the corgi to do multiple tricks and finds it a lot of fun to spend time with dogs teaching them things. Erica wants to train as well but she is inexperienced in training dogs. We are looking forward to going on walks with the corgi and playing inside (as well as outside in nice weather). John and Erica are also looking into agility training for dogs. We think it would be a lot of fun although we probably won't get into competition in the near future. We just think it would be a fun activity to do with the Pembroke.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It would depend on the "mistake". If the dog pees/poops in the house: if it is doing it in front of us, we will rush it outside; if it makes a mistake inside and it is found later, we will show the dog the mistake and say no. Corgis are usually smart enough to understand what we mean. If more mistakes are made, we will go back to basics by limiting room access to one or two rooms while we reteach the dog.

Discipline:
Verbal "no" is often used. Time outs are used immediately after bad behaviors if necessary. It is important that these are followed immediately after the undesired action and isn't confusing or unnecessarily prolonged. If the dog does something small, a verbal no is usually enough to start with. However, if the dog nips a person, time out in the Kennel for a short time period would be more appropriate.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With us (Erica and John) inside our home. The dog will be an indoor dog and will be cared for by us. We are not sure what you are asking. This seems like the same question as the one that follows it. If you could clarify, we would give a more appropriate answer.

People at home during the day?
Most of the day. The last person leaves the house around 6 am. The first person to return, will be back by 1 pm.

Where would dog eat?
We will have a spot in the kitchen where we will keep the dog's bowls and feed him/her there.

Where would dog sleep:
Realistically, probably in bed with us or near us.

Play & exercise:
Opportunities will be provided when we return home / as needed according to the corgis activity level. We will play until the corgi gets tired. The type of play will depend on the dog. If the dog likes to chase a ball, we will do that but if he/she doesn't like to chase balls, we can go for walks around the neighborhood and to dog parks nearby. We are also looking into agility training if the dog enjoys that sort of play. But each dog enjoys their own type of play/exercise.
