Why do you want a Pembroke?
Through my research, it seems as though a corgi would be a great breed for my current situation. A small to medium sized dog is appropriate for my living situation and a playful dog will also be appropriate for someone of my age.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
With living so close to the Canal in Indianapolis, long walks would be very possible several days of the week. It is also hopeful that I can be approved for a house with a backyard so a lot of play time would happen there as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
The best way that I know to handle a dog’s mistake is to show them their mistake very recently after they have done it and tell them “No” in a firm voice. I don’t think that it is ever okay to hit an animal. It is also important to reward the dog if they do something correctly with a treat or even just vocal encouragement and some affection.

Discipline:
As stated above, I believe that a firm “No” usually works when trying to dicipline a dog. However, if I was to see that this wasn’t working, obedience classes would be the next step.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The dog would spend some of its time alone at home (either a shared house or a single apartment), however, my class schedule is very flexible so it would also spend a lot of time with me at home as well.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Depending on if I decide to live alone or with others, the dog would have someone home with it for the majority of the day.

Where would dog eat?
After deciding on my living situation, I would decide on an appropriate place for the dog’s food and crate to go.

Where would dog sleep:
Depending on what the dog’s personality, it could either sleep in its crate, in a dog bed on the floor, or even in bed with me.

Play & exercise:
With living in such a large area, there are many parks and trails near me for the dog to play in and for them to get exercise.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Lindsay Brown

Willing to train children?
Assuming I get a younger Corgi, it is expected that I would still have them by the time I decide to start a family. I would definitely teach my children from a young age how to properly treat an animal

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes, the owner of the cat recently introduced her cat to her dog at home and everything went well so a similar joint effort would happen with the corgi if needed.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Who is this dog for?

I already own another Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and would like to own another one.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've always loved the corgi breed, there energy makes me more active, and I love teaching them tricks. I love seeing them excited when their happy, and seeing that little puppy butt wiggle with happiness!
I've raised a Pembroke Welsh Corgi since 8 weeks, and I've never had a to hard of a challenge with anything. The hardest thing was having him adjust from living in a house with two dogs,.
I have done the research on the breed, as I have a almost 8 month old corgi currently.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Go on walks, play with toys, teach them tricks, belly rubs!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Mistakes happen. Telling them no to let them know it was wrong, and try again.

Discipline:
Using a stern voice, but not yelling and telling them no. Making sure they understand what they did wasn't ok

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The most time the corgi would spend would be with me in the apartment, outside, or at our nearest dog park.

I have been a dog owner for the past 29 years. We started with boxers and the last dog I had was a rescued corgi named Lady Bird. She was 7 years old when i adopted her and she lived until 13. When I finally had her put down as with all my dogs I held her in my arms to see her through.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
?The corgi I recently had was a little 7 year old female. that in its self was a change for me being the last 20 some years all my dogs had been male boxers weighing over 100 pds. There was much to learn about the breed, She would have love to over eat but I kept her on a healthy diet and would not over feed, at least corgis don't drool like my boxers. but all in all i am a dog lover and bond with all breeds. The fur is an on going issue but she was such a sweet dog, gentle and my shadow for 6 years. I research all my dogs with a breeders guide that my son and I use to read before we bought him a boxer 27 years ago.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Like I said I have a large yard with a connecting grave yard, many trees and places to run. I love being out side myself. Mornings and evenings are my favorite time of day. I dont care for heat so I never spend much time out side in the heat of the day. which made my corgi very happy. All that fur.

I never use physical punishment on my dogs, a firm NO was enough to let them know I was not happy with the behavior.

Discipline:
a time out in the laundry room was enough to handle the situation. A dog is only as good as their owner. You cant expect a dog to be house trained if your not timely with bathroom breaks. She would all so chase the neighbor golden lab. We worked out an arrangement not to let them cross paths.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my home. Lady bird loved our sun porch and spent most of her time out there.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would show the dog what is OK behavior and reinforce with a treat or praise.

Discipline:
I would try to focus attention on a positive activity instead of the destructive behavior. Positive reinforcement is more successful than negatives like saying bad dog. Usually the behavior has ended and the dog does not understand why a scolding is being given.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Charlie has free run of the house in cold weather. Dogs have access to outside during the milder months of the year.

Who is this dog for?

Us, and for our 2 year old Pembroke, Russell, to have a friend/sibling..

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have had Russell since he was a puppy; we have fallen in live with him and with the breed.

We are young adults, Russell is our first pet together. Sarah grew up with small dogs (Pekinese) and spencer grew up with an array of medium to large mutts.
Sarah wanted a small dog, Spencer wanted a dog that at least behaved like a big dog. After extensive research, corgis were a perfect compromise. We love the intelligence and trainability of the breed. We love all the personality and excitement Russell shows every day. We invested in a high end vacuum to deal with the shedding.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Though we know apartment living is not ideal for Corgis, we make it work with daily walks and trips to off-leash parks and beaches several times per week. Russell loves all forms of fetch, especially his frisbee. One of our local dog parks has an agility course, too. These adventures are documented on Russell's instagram page (curated by Sarah) @russell.the.corgi

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Ideally, the mistake is caught immediately and can be corrected in real time. We have found that most mistakes by the dog can be corrected by a change in behavior from the owner. Russell loved chewing shoes as a puppy. He was scolded verbally, but the chewing ultimately stopped once we got better at keeping our shoes out of his reach.

Discipline:
As I noted in the previous answer, we have scolded Russell verbally. Whenever possible, we try to present him with an alternative to the bad behavior. If he is going to chew, replace the thing he shouldnt chew on with a toy he can chew on. Bell training worked wonders for Russell as far as potty accidents are concerned.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the apartment. We close Russell off from the bathroom and bedroom when he is alone, but he has free run of the remainder of the apartment.

People at home during the day?
On days when both of us are at work all day (dogs are alone 8+ hours), we have a fantastic dog walker who comes in the early afternoon.

Where would dog eat?
The dog's food and water bowl is located on a rubber boot tray (to contain water spills) in the living room

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever she/he feels comfortable. Russell splits his time about evenly under the bed, in his crate in the kitchen, or a big chair in the living room.

Walks occur daily. Trips to the dog park or beach occur more often in warm weather, but are always at least a few times per week.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
What I love most about them is the corgi smile. I like that they are inquisitive and adaptable to most situations. My first was Skeeter (Buddy) in 2001 from Lakeshore. He was a handful but we got along great. He had been a stray at 7-ish months and took a bit of time to get used to others but we did good together. He died 11/2015 and I got Breanna because the breeder had died & her husband couldn't take care of all the dogs. She came to me 2 weeks after Skeet. She was the most laid back dog I've known. She died of liver disease 3 weeks ago.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I've always taken my dogs for a before work walk and 1 or 2 after work walks. I have a decent yard for play. Depending on the dog, we've also walked in the woods.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
First a firm no, then a redirect to something he does right so there will be a positive outcome. Then try again.

Discipline:
If pulling while walking, I either stand still until my dog gives me his attention or do a turnabout. If too much barking, I say quiet and walk 'into' them so that they back away from whatever they are barking at.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
When I'm at work, she would be gated in the family room. When I'm at home, she would be wherever she wants.
