Who is this dog for?

We would love to add a Pembroke to our family for the two of us. We are looking for a companion to go on walks, cuddle, plat with and love on, but also to keep Katie company while Mitch is away for work.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love that they are known as being playful and friendly dogs, as we like to be outdoors a lot. We would love to be able to take our dog anywhere with us, and have people be able to come up to them and pet them without having to worry! This is something that we see possible with a pembroke welsh corgi. We also like that they are protective, as it would often be home with Katie while Mitch is away for work. Feeling that there is a protector in the house is important. Their size is also attractive. Living in an apartment makes a dog on the smaller size more attractive, though this is not the main reason we are looking for a pembroke welsh corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We love to be outdoors, so it would definitely get a lot of activity! We enjoy hiking and taking walks, as well as spending time outside relaxing. It would go most places where allowed with us, including stores when allowed! It would definitely make it to the dog park, as being non-dog aggressive is very very important for us. We would like to be able to take it to relatives houses with us on vacations and holidays, so we want it to be able to spend time around other dogs without major issues.

Discipline:
Mainly redirection of behavior; in the case of chewing- giving them a bone or something the chew on, in the case of accidents in the house- show them to go outside and train to use bathroom outside. When a dangerous undesirable behavior occurs, such as nipping someone, we would give a quick tap on the nose and remove them from the situation, essentially a time out. We feel that it is important to let them know when they do something wrong, but being aggressive or harmful towards them is unacceptable.

People at home during the day?
At some point throughout the day someone is home. Mitch has a more consistent schedule of being gone, but working at TJ Maxx gives me a more flexible schedule. I am not usually gone long hours, which would mean there would only be a short period of time on the days when I work that they would be home alone.

In our kitchen

Where would dog sleep:
On its bed in our bedroom or living room, or in our bed with us.

Play & exercise:
We will take them on walks, play fetch outside, take them to the dog park, and possibly take them to doggy day care throughout the week. They would at least get 2 walks a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, along with playing outside in the evening.

Who is this dog for?

Our family. We have a son, who is 11 years old and he specifically wants a Corgi. We have no other dogs and our yard is fenced. Have lived in our home for 14 years. We'd prefer a rescue–had a previous Shepherd/Husky mix that was terrific.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have researched the breed and believe it would be ideal to our family. They are adorable, active, and friendly! We like it's history as we are bit of Anglophiles. Our son believes they are just the cutest dogs ever. We have come across a few and they all seem so friendly and nice. We did however want to wait until our son was large enough that he wouldn't be herded 🙂 ….even that trait is adorable….you just can't have small children in the house.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We enjoy walking, spending time in the backyard, and playing in the snow. We like to get out and about in the winter and the fact they like snow is a big bonus! We definitely envision the Corgi becoming part of the family! That also means that at night s/he will relax with us and sleep in our son's bedroom.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It is generally understood that one must immediately draw the animal's attention to the issue and then a firm "no no" and holding the animals face near the offending situation. However, we believe that positive reinforcement is a better approach and rewarding good behavior and positive phrases and petting.

Discipline:
Admonishment and holding his/her face near the offense. Not a long duration.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
When we are home, he/she would be with us whether inside or outside. When we are not home, perhaps a crate/kennel at first if behavior is unknown and then generally introducing non-crate.

Currently, yes, but it is not expected to stay that way. Consulting from home–going to return to full-time, regular employment.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Remy was brought into our home to get our son used to caring for a small animal. It is understood that she has a short life span so is not expected to be with us for a long time as we transition to a dog. She has not been exposed to other animals so we don't know if she is 'friendly' but is in a cage.

I do live in a small apartment. However, I can take the dog to a doggie daycare for exercise while I am at work. My parents and sister's family also have dogs and I have a 1 year old nephew. The dog would need to be dog friendly and comfortable around small children, though they would not be around them 24/7.

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke is for me.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I would like a Pembroke because I have researched the breed and feel that they would be an excellent choice for my apartment. I like that they are active but would do well in an apartment setting, intelligent, easy to train, and playful. Plus, they are just adorable!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take them on multiple walks during the day, along with going to the dog park on the weekends when it is nice. If needed, I would take them to doggie daycare when I am at work. They would also go on car rides when visiting my family in the GB area.
