My son suffers from epilepsy and due to be alone a lot has depression problems. A dog that seems 'in tune' to emotions and needs would be great. This may be a pipe dream option, but I know dogs can be very intuitive. He currently has 2 guinea pigs – which can be moved to our home if the new family member and the piggies don't get along – so that isn't a deal breaker – wanted to let you know in case there is a candidate that likes other animals as friends.

Who is this dog for?

My son, Andy. He has been approved for an emotional support animal by his doctors. He has high functioning autism and epilepsy. He would like the companionship of a dog and has researched and chosen the Corgi as the breed of choice. Because he lives alone he needs an older dog that is already house broken and somewhat trained since we don't have the luxury of training (the owner of his apartment building is worried about damage from a younger dog).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My son is very fond of foxes – the Corgi looks like one and he is very excited about that. From the ones we met they seem very loveable and friendly. The smaller breed was preferred because of living in an apartment vs a house. He is looking for a friend and companion – the corgi seemed perfect.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
He does have a park across the street from his apartment and is a big walker – so the pooch would have plenty of exercise opportunity. Beyond that – relaxing in the house and just 'hanging out'.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
As a mistake. It would depend on the mistake. A chewed item – a strict 'no' and letting them know I am not happy. 'Going' in the house – back to crate training until the event doesn't re-occur.

Discipline:
Never striking, more or less strict voice and directing to proper (wanted) behavior

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With Andy in the living room or outside for walks. He already has a dog bed and area setup for his new friend. He is hoping for a dog that likes to hang out with him.
