We would require a corgi that gets along with other dogs as we have an English Cream Dachshund and also is friendly with kids because we have a 1 year old and a 9 year old. We know that our 1 year old is still way too young to be around any dog by herself. Our current dog is not the fondest of her, so we do keep them separate for the most part because she can be too rough for him and he is not the biggest fan of that. If they are in the same room together, we make sure that she leaves him alone.

Who is this dog for?

It would be for our entire family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I really think this is a great breed for families. They are super smart and easy to train. They have a great energy level for an active family and super sweet dogs all around. I love that they are a smaller breed, but don't act like the typical teacup dogs. I think a corgi would be a great friend to our dachshund as they seem to have similar personalities, but corgi's are a little bit nicer than dachshunds. I know that they can be a bit stubborn at times, but we have plenty of experience with stubborn dogs as dachshunds can also be VERY stubborn.
Obviously, they are cuter than all get out! I have only met a few corgi's, but each one has stolen my heart!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would go on walks and make time to give him or her the exercise and play time that they need. It really depends on what the particular dog likes to do. Our current dog is a big homebody now, so he is not very into walks anymore. He had back surgery abut three years ago and has a hard time walking on a leash for more than a block or so.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would handle it with patience. You can't expect perfection from a dog. You just have to show them the correct way of doing things and you may have to show them over and over.

Discipline:
I only really use a stern voice and if it is a really bad offence, I would put them in their crate for a time-out. I do not and never will use any sort of force on a dog. I don't agree with the collars that have the spikes on them or doing things like rubbing their nose in pee because of an accident. We can't expect perfection out of dogs 100% of the time.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home or our fenced in back yard. Depending on the dog, when we are not home, it will either be in a crate or free to roam if it is ok being in the house alone. We have to crate our current dog because if he is left out, he will pee. We have tried to give him several chances like when we just need to run a quick errand, Our dog that passed in June was free to be out while we were not home. She never even tried to get into anything and rarely had an accident in the house. Our dogs are a part of our family, so the dog would be with us most of the time.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Angela and Christopher

Willing to train children?
Yes, we are currently going through that with our 1 year old. We are showing her how to be gentle. Obviously, she does not quite grasp that yet, so we make sure that she is never left alone with our dog. If they are in the same room we make sure that they are separate as she does not understand how to be gentle. She LOVES dogs. In fact, her first word besides mama and dada was puppy. She goes nuts when she sees them, but she doesn't get what a gentle pet yet is and that puppies don't want to be squeezed. We just keep reinforcing how to be gentle and one day she will understand.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.
