Who is this dog for?

Our family- Jillian, Paul and our daughter, Evie (15 years old) Ritchie.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We like the size, appearance and intelligence of this breed. We have researched various internet sites to read up on the breed specifics as well as viewed TV programs related to the breed. We especially like that Corgis are good family pets and are people friendly.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would take our dog walking every day- we are moving into a new family home in a residential neighborhood (Jan 31, 2020), and there is a public trail just a couple of blocks away. Our town is very walkable from our home, and there are several public parks very close by. My sister also has a home on a lake in Northern Wisconsin that we visit often with lots of opportunities for our dog to swim or go on the pontoon boat with us. We also enjoy playing inside games with our pets.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It's important to understand the specifics of your dog and your dog's breed and set up the environment accordingly. In many cases, dogs making "mistakes" are the fault of the owner not understanding how to set limits. For example, if the family has left the dog at home with full run of the entire home, the dog may feel stressed and act out by chewing on furniture or other unwanted behavior. Another example is not properly fencing the yard or letting the dog off the leash and then being surprised if the dogs runs into the neighbor's yard. In my experience, in most cases of our dog making a "mistake", it was a signal to us about what her limitations were.

Discipline:
Dogs need to be shown what is the desired behavior and then reward that behavior. When the dog exhibits the wrong behavior, s/he needs to be shown again what the right behavior is. A dog can be told "no" to get her/his attention, but should never be struck.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home with us. We- Paul and Jillian- are retired. Our 15-year old daughter attends high school and would also spend a great deal of time with our dog as she is a big animal lover.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes- see above.

Where would dog eat?
We have a spot in the kitchen for food and water dishes.

Where would dog sleep:
This would depend somewhat on the dog's preference. If possible, our daughter Evie would love to have the dog sleep in her room at night. We will have dog beds in various rooms for relaxing/sleeping during the day.

Play & exercise:
As mentioned above, our town is very walkable from our new home, including a nature trail just a couple of blocks away. We also have other public parks and intend to fence our front yard later this year. In warmer weather, we often go to my sister's cabin on a lake in Northern Wisconsin.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Description of yard:

We have just built a new home in town (move in date- Jan 31, 2020). It has a small front yard (about 100 x 40'), a large side yard (about 50 x 120') that will eventually have a fenced garden and a back yard (about 120 x 40') that will eventually have a small above-ground pool (fenced) and patio area. There is also a deck off the kitchen.

Household members:
{Describe all the people who live in your home, include names, ages and interests. For example, Mary Smith, 29, Enjoys cooking, dog training, gardening and running.:75}

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
This will truly be shared by the whole family but Jillian will take the major responsibility.

Willing to train children?
Yes, we know this. Fortunately, our 15-year old is very sensitive to the needs of pets. She has 2 guinea pigs (caged and in a separate room) who have been thriving under her care.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

No, some of our current pets are not friendly toward dogs

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
We are very aware that guinea pigs and dogs cannot be in the same space. We have a special "rodent room" that we have built in the basement of our new home to give them their own place- in a cage, in a separate room (with a door). At most, we will add one more dog to our home beyond the Corgi. If we do so, we will be certain to make sure the two dogs are compatible.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
