Who is this dog for?

We are hoping to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for our home.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We fell in love with Corgis after we both grew up with dogs in the home and started to look to adopt our own. We appreciate the breeds playful demeanor, activity level, and playfulness. We also know how incredibly smart and active they are and are hoping to have a dog we can both cuddle and love as well as play and be active with.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We typically love to go on long walks and would love to take our Pembroke Corgi with us. We also are hoping to hiking, camping, playing fetch, and doing other outdoor activities with our Pembroke. Knowing the activity and energy levels of Corgi's it will be important to keep them both physically and mentally active.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

No

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would use behavioral techniques to train the corgi if a mistake is made, particularly using positive reinforcement on a fixed interval schedule in order to discriminate between desired behaviors and mistakes. Additionally, knowing that Corgis need guidance and continuous exercise we will make sure to keep the corgi active and be attentive to respond if a mistake is made.

Discipline:
We would make sure to train and enroll the dog in a training course if the dog needed to be disciplined or trained based off of mistakes. Additionally we would want to use behavioral techniques to help the corgi understand and differentiate between different behaviors. Overall, a gentle yet firm approach will be used, always keeping in mind how to corgi is responding and what the corgi needs.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Pembroke corgi would spend most of their time at home with both of us. We currently work at home and will be for the foreseeable future. Further we would be sure to not leave the dog for extended periods of time (more than 4 hours). If this was the case we would be sure the dog went to doggy day care.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes we are both currently working from home and are home for most, if not the whole day.

Where would dog eat?
The adopted corgi will eat in a consistent place in our home where their bowls for both food and water would be kept.

Where would dog sleep:
We would assess where the Corgi is most comfortable, including either the bed, their own bed on the floor, or within a crate with a bed in that is more preferable.

Play & exercise:
We would be sure to take the corgi on two long walks per a day to make sure that the corgi gets enough exercise and consistently. We would also be sure to go to dog parks, play with toys and play fetch with the corgi in order to provide the corgi with exercise and activity. Additionally, knowing how smart the breed is we would want to be able to stimulate the corgi mentally as well with tricks and other mental activities.
