Who is this dog for?

Laurie is my wife – for our family, us, two teenagers.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Our 10 year old dachshund JJ recently died due to a degenerative spinal disease, after a spinal surgery, so we're looking to bring adopt a dog. We've had neighbors with corgis and really loved the breed, and always thought we'd love to have a corgi as a future dog. We have researched the breed and feel it would fit in well with our suburban lifestyle.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
With JJ, we've taken him on trips, often go to the park / dog park, for daily walks, and playing at our house. We have a large suburban house with fenced in back yard. We initially got JJ as a puppy and went through formal obedience training and socialization with other dogs, and also spent a lot of time at home training with ongoing reinforcement.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
All dogs make mistakes, so just as with kids, it's a process of correction, re-training, and reinforcement.

Discipline:
We've never disciplined JJ. If he had an accident, we'd clean it up, then focus on re-training potty skills, for instance. We'd never punish him.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our approach with JJ was to provide an enclosed pen with bedding and water for him at night as opposed to a crate, and during the daytime he was free to roam the house. We have a large, fenced in back yard on a quarter acre lot, so he could spend plenty of time outdoors.

People at home during the day?
My wife only works part time in the morning as a preschool teacher, so she's usually home during the afternoon, as are our kids after school. JJ was primarily by himself from around 9-12.

Where would dog eat?
We have a large kitchen / living room combo area, where JJ's pen was located. JJ had food and water bowls available next to the pen.

Where would dog sleep:
In the pen at night with bedding / water bowl, and the pen is also available to use all day as needed by the dog.

Play & exercise:
We were taking JJ on one or more walks daily, so probably 30-60 minutes outside walks, plus trips parks / dog parks, plus play time indoors with the family chasing balls for treats, etc.
