Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We adopted a corgi in 2010 and lost her to cancer in spring of 2019. She was approx 4-5 yrs old when we got her. We have always had a dog and all were cherished family members, but she was by far the smartest and most entertaining companion of all.

 This Pembroke Corgi will be for Jenna Kirsch.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because they have adorable personalities and are incredibly smart. They are supposed to be a great starting pet for Novice dog owners. I grew up around dogs and will be living on my own within the next year and would love to have a Corgi to keep me company as I will be parting with my parents Lab, Jax. I have taught Jax so many tricks and love him to pieces. I’ve read that Corgi’s love learning new tricks just like Labs do. I’ve also read that Corgi’s don’t really like spending long periods of times home alone. If I were to work a long shift or be out of town and the Corgi won’t be able to come with, Then he would be staying at my parents for the day and have company all day. Otherwise when I am busy around my own home the Corgi would have my Cat, Prince, as a partner in crime. Prince is very affectionate and loves other animals (Dogs and Cats). I would also spend lots of time cuddling or playing with the Corgi. I will have lots of free time living on my own and I want most of the time to be spent going out and doing things with the Corgi. No matter the situation he would always be cared for and thought of. I can’t wait to start my journey of adopting and spoiling a Corgi.

 The activities we would do include: Spending time at a park or dog beach, going on car rides, going to T.J Maxx or Pet Smart and finding toys that will help keep his smart Corgi brain busy, visiting Jax or other dogs, and lots and lots of walks!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If the Corgi makes a mistake I will make sure to firmly say no and bring him away from the situation. If needed, training and research on how to stop the behavior.

Discipline:
 The discipline I use with dogs is just telling them to go lay down in their bed. It’s taking away their social time and giving them a time out. After 5-10 minutes when they have calmed down they can come out of time out. This typically works for a lot of bad behavior. If I need something else for discipline, then I would have to ask for someone else’s opinion (Vet) and go from there.

 Yes, we are willing to work very hard to try and resolve the problem if my newly adopted corgi does not get along with any of my current pets or pets I may add in the future. Currently the only pet that doesn’t get along with other animals is Callie. We have successfully trained Jax AND Prince to “Leave it” when she is angry. Which she is always grumpy considering she’s just an old cat. We would put just much effort training the Corgi and respecting it’s boundaries with the other animals. We understand that it takes time for animals to become comfortable with each other and have the patience to help the Corgi become comfortable in our pack.

 This Corgi will primarily be for my Daughter. She has fallen in love with the breed over the years. The reason for that is she finds them to be sweet, loyal, and friendly. She also loves their features and amazing personalities.

 Many activities that we commonly do are go on walks in the woods and we go to many horse shows. For the horse shows, the dogs are not allowed off a leash so there would be no free wandering.

 My partner and I! We live in a humble apartment and would like to home an adult corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We, despite being busy graduate students, live a very active lifestyle with frequent walks, bike rides, runs, and hikes. Yet, we live in a one bedroom apartment that would be small for a bigger dog. Pembrokes, while small, are very active dogs who love to do activities with their owners. Additionally, I have extensive experience with dog care and training. For years (middle/high school), I was in 4H Dog Club during which I trained my family dog in basic obedience, house manners, agility, showmanship, and cute tricks. This was a really important aspect of owning a dog for me, and I know that Pembrokes are intelligent dogs who respond well to consistent obedience training. I am willing to put in the work to train my Pembroke well, and I already have connections with a dog trainer near my home. Additionally, I have interacted extensively with my brother-in-law’s corgi, and I have fallen in love with her independent yet loyal personality, her intelligence, and her love for activity. We have done extensive research on this breed, and we feel it would be the best breed for us!

 We would take our Pembroke on walks, hikes, bike rides, and runs (and dog parks!). He/she would experience all kinds of locations and places (beach, park, etc.). Additionally, we would train our corgi in basic obedience, house manners, and cute tricks. We would also have lots of snuggles and love for our Pembroke!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I would assume it’s a miscommunication between us. I would correct the behavior immediately with a “no” and seek to improve my communication with my Pembroke by using food motivation to correct the behavior. This may be enforcing “place”, etc.

 I am more familiar with positive reinforcement training, but I am going to look into a very reputable, professional dog trainer to help me use a more balanced training approach.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We love this breed because they tend to be smaller dogs in size and are perfect for apartment living. They also seem to be affectionate and smart. We know that they require attention and a good amount of exercise. We are also aware that they require grooming as they shed quite a bit. We do not have experience with this breed but have done our research, especially regarding health issues. We know that they are typically healthy but can be prone to hip issues, along with other problems, due to their stature.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Living in a city, our dog would be able to go on plenty of walks and visits to the dog park. Our dog would also have the opportunity to have play dates with our family's mini doodle and of course playtime at home!
