 Our family- Jillian, Paul and our daughter, Evie (15 years old) Ritchie.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We like the size, appearance and intelligence of this breed. We have researched various internet sites to read up on the breed specifics as well as viewed TV programs related to the breed. We especially like that Corgis are good family pets and are people friendly.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We would take our dog walking every day- we are moving into a new family home in a residential neighborhood (Jan 31, 2020), and there is a public trail just a couple of blocks away. Our town is very walkable from our home, and there are several public parks very close by. My sister also has a home on a lake in Northern Wisconsin that we visit often with lots of opportunities for our dog to swim or go on the pontoon boat with us. We also enjoy playing inside games with our pets.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		It's important to understand the specifics of your dog and your dog's breed and set up the environment accordingly. In many cases, dogs making "mistakes" are the fault of the owner not understanding how to set limits. For example, if the family has left the dog at home with full run of the entire home, the dog may feel stressed and act out by chewing on furniture or other unwanted behavior. Another example is not properly fencing the yard or letting the dog off the leash and then being surprised if the dogs runs into the neighbor's yard. In my experience, in most cases of our dog making a "mistake", it was a signal to us about what her limitations were.

Discipline:
 Dogs need to be shown what is the desired behavior and then reward that behavior. When the dog exhibits the wrong behavior, s/he needs to be shown again what the right behavior is. A dog can be told "no" to get her/his attention, but should never be struck.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 In our home with us. We- Paul and Jillian- are retired. Our 15-year old daughter attends high school and would also spend a great deal of time with our dog as she is a big animal lover.

There is also a deck off the kitchen.

We have a special "rodent room" that we have built in the basement of our new home to give them their own place- in a cage, in a separate room (with a door). At most, we will add one more dog to our home beyond the Corgi. If we do so, we will be certain to make sure the two dogs are compatible.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have done research and I think they would be the perfect breed for me. I am young and very physically active and would love to devote my attention to my dog and its well being. I am single and they would receive all of my undivided attention. One of my best friends also has a corgi and I love their perfect size and the balance of their personality between being very active but also able to be quiet. I appreciate their personality of being small but not “yippee”.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I would go on tons of walks and certainly cuddle the dog very often. I would socialize them at parks and bring them around with me in the car whenever necessary, wherever they comfortable.

Who is this dog for?

 The family. We have two adult children that live with us. We have a Black Mouth Cur that we adopted several years ago. She came from south. She likes other dogs, but is very food oriented. We have worked with her on this, so she I no longer food aggressive. We also have three cats that all get along with our dog.

 My last dog was a corgi mut (per the shelter). I loved its personality – friendly, loyal, loving. There stocky appearance is also so adorable I am in love with how they walk/run/bed. Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have loved Corgi's since I was a little girl who played with neighbors Corgi, Max. As an adult, I became a Corgi mom to my own Max, who I spent 30 years loving before I ever met him. I rescued his half sister, Pizza, from my friend, whose husband was abusive to. I have extensive knowledge on the breed, having spent my entire life loving them.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 They are adorable. I have read that they are intelligent and cheerful. They are my niece's favorite dog. I have been blessed to have lucked into great dogs with big personalities in the past. Two boxers (one inherited, one rescue both smart loyal sweet clowns) and an abandoned beagle basset I picked up at an Arby's along the interstate – smart, funny, stubborn and loving. In addition what they all had in common is they were social and also devoted to me. It seems to me a Corgi is this kind of creature

 This is not a dealbreaker but I have bad associations with severely barking dogs. I know corgis are a herding breed and they do bark, but if there is one that has a tendency not to – that would be an excellent fit for me.

Also, this might be masochism – but I do prefer long haired corgis. I have spent ample time buried in dog hair to not find it that much of a bother.

Who is this dog for?

 For myself. I currently have an equally welcoming roommate and then will have family stay with me.

I understand the commitment of a dog, having grown up with one and recently taking care of my ex-boyfriend's dog(husky) as we lived together.


Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I love the breed's personality most. How stubborn they are and goofy – sploots and all. I also prefer the size. Having managed a larger dog, I now know that a medium dog like a corgi is a better fit for my lifestyle.
I have done research in a variety of forums. more advice based vet/rescue blogs but also facebook groups filled with daily posts on all kinds of corgis. It is a wealth of information on the pickiness over food, certain behavior traits (stubbornness, herding), as well as soothing and coping advice.
At the end of the day each corgi seems to have his/her own mix of quirks. I do think the chemistry with the owner decides a lot of what one is willing to work on.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I have expressed looking for an older, less active and quite corgi. This is with the understanding that it is relative – I know corgis as a breed are on the more active, vocal spectrum.

Knowing this I would absolutely exercise them as needed. I enjoy walks, short hikes, and exploration. I also find the use of intellectually stimulating toys goes long way in the happiness of the dog.

I would not lie though that I do wish to snuggle and provide plentiful love to my corgi. I know all corgi's are not meant for this and so hope that you will reach out if you have a match.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		It depends. If I am able to catch it in the act then negative reinforcement such as voice and facial expression feedback. If not, then there is not much to be done but be more vigilant.
If the mistake is more than peeing or pooping, then with my husky I had a punishment corner which if he had done something really wrong(which lord a husky can do some mischief), he would be sent to – i did not wish to make his crate that space. However, since this will be an older dog not a pup, I will work with what they seem to respond to.
I also think soon after a scolding finding something to praise them on helps with reinforcing good from bad.

Discipline requires creativity and to fit with what motivates the dog. I would hear from the foster or shelter on what seems to work and further build on it.

 The whole house, which is currently a 2bedroom, with a large living room, hallway, and my room being bigger.
My roommate will have the choice to allow them into their room or not, however, I do not forsee a problem. They are equally excited to have a dog in the house.

I might provide boundaries at first with the living room and my room. The kitchen takes some getting used to I have found with all the sights and smells.

 Not always. Once I work full-time after May, during the week I will have 6-8hrs out, however I have two work from home days, as well as a dog friendly office.

 I haven't decided yet, there would be a dedicated food corner though which is where at mealtimes I will go and place food.

I do not believe in moving the bowl around.


Where would dog sleep:
 In a dog bed in my room. Though based on their comfort and personality my bed would be ideal.

 I will have evenings open for play and exercise. As well as morning walks.
For the first few months, I will have more time to settle them in but overtime I will accustom them to the routine.
This is not to say that weekend will not be more flexible with maybe more dog park visits, hikes, lake walks. etc.

My husky loved the pool and so we spent time there. I really think it is important to adapt to the like of the dog.

 I think I will slowly try out the yard first.. we had a very long leash that allowed our husky to run around with freedom and yet have the yard as extra protection. The yard walls (mix of steel fence and wood) appear sound as both neighboring houses have dogs and I have heard of no escape yet.

In either case I do not plan to leave them unsupervised. It do not know of the dimensions of the yard but it not that big, it goes with my three floor apartment building, where I am on the second floor.
