Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
"I would not be angry but, instead, train it to not make the mistake again," said granddaughter.

Discipline:
Grandfather speaking: I would teach my granddaughter to use a short leash and a prong collar in a precise manner which is harmless to the dog (gentle flicks). I would then teach her to use the prong collar with a retractable leash to teach more commands. Next, I would show her to add a vibrating training collar to initiate commands. We would then remove the prong collar and, later, the leash to test obedience. These methods have been successfully used with two Dutch
Shepherds.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the home except during playtime. We have a two acre yard surrounded by an underground electric fence. The Pembroke would be fitted with a collar.

Who is this dog for?

Myself. I have been a lifelong Corgi lover and have been wanting to adopt a Corgi for a while.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always wanted to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi – I have been dreaming of owning one since I was a little kid. As a child, I was obsessed with anything British and once I found out the Queen had Corgis, I wanted one, too! What first drew me to the different colors and looks of the breed. But as I grew up and started doing my research on the breed, I realized I loved the energy and playfulness of the breed. I love that they are active and require daily walks. I love that Corgis are affectionate and companionable but aren't needy. I love that they are fearless and independent, much like myself! Corgis and I have very similar personalities and I think we'd be a perfect match!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Since there is another dog (Corgi/Cocker mix) in the house as well as two fenced-in yards, my Pembroke would spend a lot of time interacting and playing with the other dog in addition to the activity spent with me. I would take my Corgi on daily morning walks before work for around 30-45 minutes. I enjoy jogging, so I'd take my Pembroke on a short jog after work. Additionally, we have a big fenced-in back yard, so it'd be easy to set up obstacle courses for the Pembroke to enjoy.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
By showing what the dog needs to do (i.e. a visitor comes to the house and the dog gets excited by barking. Instead of telling the dog to "stop", I would have the dog sit or go to his crate when the visitor comes and reward him when he does this behavior).

Discipline:
I would not discipline my dog, so to speak.. I would use positive reinforcement, with treats and praise, to encourage positive behaviors.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My Pembroke would spend most of his/her time inside – he'd be an indoor-only dog – but would definitely have plenty of exercise and outdoor time.

People at home during the day?
Yes, my grandmother is home during the day. I live with my aunt and grandmother, temporarily.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen

Where would dog sleep:
The Corgi would sleep in my room with me, either on the bed or in the dog bed on the floor.

Play & exercise:
We have two fenced-in yards, so the Corgi would have various opportunities to play and exercise in the yard in addition to walk/play time with me. He would get a lot of play and exercise – playing in the yard with the other dog (Corgi/Cocker mix), walk/jog time with me twice a day (total of 60-90 minutes), and stimulation time (with obstacle course in back yard).

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Who is this dog for?

Our 14 year old daughter

Why do you want a Pembroke?
What isn't there to love? They are cute and flouncy. But more importantly the right size for our teenage daughter. She has tons of energy and is fun size as well (just under 5 foot 2)

Activities planned with Pembroke:
She would love to have an animal to walk around the neighborhood with. My husband and I would feel better about her safety if she had an animal companion. She also has a bit of depression so the cuddles would be the most important. We also like to set up the kiddie pool in our fenced in back yard for the dog in the summer. We play lots of fetch as well.

Who is this dog for?

Me, and I would like to train him or her to be a therapy dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I am older and I wanted a dog breed that is good to be a therapy dog. I like to walk but not alone. I would also like a dog for protection, barking deters intruders.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, playing in the yard, I like talk to them a lot, dog therapy classes and then visits to nursing homes or hospitals or hospices.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would try first to correct them telling them "No" and try to redirect them to a positive behavior reinforced with treats and verbal encouragment.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement with small treats, verbal praise, and pets.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me in my house, I am also an artist so I have studio and he/she would come out to the studio with me. Walks in morning and evening or one long walk. In the yard as needed but not outside all day.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, mosts days I am home. I have classes I attend and some commitments right now I work out in my studio or at my computer. I work in a dental Office 2-4 days per month for a 7-8 hour shift.

Where would dog eat?
I tend to be pretty conscious of what I eat myself, so I treat my pets the same way. I usually get dog food from the health food store, so it is a higher grade food than the grocery store brands.

Where would dog sleep:
In my bedroom or living room. My past dogs have always had their own beds, I do not allow my dogs to sleep in my bed. I would put a bed in my living room, my bed room and most likely in my studio too for the dog.

Play & exercise:
I usually walk my dogs in the morning for 20-30 minutes and the same in the evening. Or I will take them on field trip to local parks and nature walks and walk longer 45-60 minutes or longer. in the past I have had a dog door so they could come and go inside and out as they pleased. I do not have that set up in this current house and I am not sure I would install a dog door here at my current location. I am around enough that it should not be an issue.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
